Today, I wrote the most beautiful college application essay ever, ten minutes before the online deadline. Instead of clicking "submit", I clicked the button next to it that said "return". The entire essay vanished into internet wasteland. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Genius, huh?
Today, after pulling an all-nighter on an essay, I submitted it one minute before the deadline and felt like a genius. Later, I reopened the file and discovered I'd uploaded the rough draft instead of the final version. The last line ended with “fix this later,” which was not my finest academic work. FML
FIXED
Today, I pulled an all-nighter to finish an essay. I submitted it one minute before the deadline. Later, I opened the file to double-check and realized I'd uploaded my rough draft, containing notes like “THIS PART MAKES NO SENSE, FIX LATER.” The professor then replied, “I agree with your assessments.” FML
Today, I went to check my grade, which was posted for an essay for my comp 1 class. I got a zero. I was devastated only to find out I never actually clicked the submit document button. My grade dropped 20 points. FML
Today, after meticulously rereading my application, merging references, budgets, academic transcripts and itineraries for an amazing scholarship, I clicked submit, only to remember that the system was on Daylight Savings time, which we don't have in my state! I missed out on $2,500 by 3 minutes. FML
Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!
Today, I was writing an essay while sleep-deprived. In between actually writing, I started typing my thoughts. It was only after I’d submitted the essay that I realized that I hadn’t deleted the random words. My teacher can see my early-morning rambling about potatoes. I have no way to delete it. FML
Today, I mailed out a college application that is going to another country. I paid $250 for the application and $11 for shipping. I just realized that I forgot to sign the bottom of the application. FML
Close, but no cigar
Today, after submitting my college application, I noticed that I mistyped "math enthusiast" as "meth enthusiast". FML
Today, after submitting a 500-word essay to a writing contest, I found out that I lost to someone who wrote 3 sentences. FML
Today, I borrowed my dad's laptop to type an essay. While I was saving it, I noticed some curious looking files and I opened them. They were rejection letters from all the colleges I had applied to. My dad had been forging them so he wouldn't have to pay for my tuition bills. FML
Roommates from hell
Today, I was taking a final test online that would account for 65% of my final grade, for which I'd worked extremely hard. I had one submission for the test, and my roommate thought it would be funny to click the "Submit All" Button while I was getting a glass of water. I got a 13%. FML

ydi for not taking the proper time to write the application. And for writing it in the browser. and for not turning it in earlier.

Despite what you may think, "beautiful" essays are hardly perfect and amazing on their very first draft. Especially when they are written in the browser. If you didn't have the sense to use a Word (or some sort of equivalent) document as a back-up, and if you didn't have the sense to plan ahead, then you don't have the sense to write fantastic essays. Don't wait until the last minute. YDI.

Also with most typed things on the web if you go to another page and hit the "back" button in your browser it stays there.

YDI. Any good writer knows not to write their first draft on the computer. WRITE IN ON PAPER FIRST. It wasn`t as good as you thought.

While OP does completely and utterly deserve it, hand-writing doesn't work for some people just like typing doesn't work for some people. You can't generalize what a "good writer" does and does not do, because the writing process is unique for each person. (...You can totally blame Zinsser for this comment. I finally picked up a copy of "On Writing Well" and I've been at it most of the night. *is shot for being an uber dork*)

So you're one of those people who thinks that if people don't have the exact same writing technique as you, then they're not good writers?

I have never once written an essay draft on paper first, except when I was in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

All of my high school teachers have encouraged me to write drafts on paper. It's not unheard of...

Look on the bright side, if you can't even click the correct button to apply it's extremely unlikely you would have been accepted by the college (assuming they have some sort of screening process / minimal standards). Sooo, basically you just saved yourself a lot of disappointment. What's there to be all FML about?

This is why you write the essay in Word, save it, then copy and paste. YDI moron.

its an application. if you cant pass the application procedure, then (rightfully so) you shouldnt be accepted. maybe next year you will be mature enough to plan ahead. wanting it badly isnt sufficient.
