Today, I woke up to my living room covered in 8 cm of water. My $2k computer was on that floor. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, the toilet in the IT department basement broke and flooded the room with a foot of water. In the process, it destroyed a $7000 server and an equally expensive power supply. FML
Today, after five months of working overtime and doing my own repairs around the house, such as patching my own roof to save money, I walk into my home office. I find my $2500, week old, top of the line laptop won't turn on because it's drenched in water. Apparently there's a leak in the roof. FML
Today, when I came home from work, my computer was drenched with water. My sister claimed there was smoke coming out of it. FML
Today, I bought a fish bowl and a fish for $15. I brought him home and sat him on my desk. Everything was going well until the shelf gave out and his bowl slid off of the shelf... onto my $2,000 computer. The computer is fried and is not covered by the insurance, the fish is fine. FML
Today, while working on my laptop, I accidentally spilled a glass of water. I quickly moved my laptop out of the way of the oncoming stream. It fell on the floor and broke. FML
Today, I noticed that my ceiling was sagging slightly. I got up on to a chair to look at it more closely, and I touched it. Turns out that my ceiling was full of water. It went everywhere, ruining my new iPod, phone, and all the things my daughter bought for university. FML
The signs were there
Today, I noticed a spot of water on the floor. I thought my cats had spilled a cup of water and didn't worry about it. I went to a meeting and when I came back, my entire apartment was flooded with 3 inches of water. FML
Damage control
Today, I overloaded the washing machine and it flooded the downstairs. The flooring will have to be scrapped and drywall replaced. It's 100% my fault. Did I mention this is not my house? FML
Today, I got home from work, and saw a note on the counter my roomate left saying "Sorry about the basement." I then went into the basement, and found that it was flooded. My TV, Xbox360, mini-fridge, and couch were all destroyed. Good thing he tried to stop the leak with scotch tape. FML
Gotta keep those data centers irrigated
Today, my house was broken into and my computer was stolen. Fortunately, I have cloud backups of all my work; unfortunately, hardware prices have gone through the roof and I won't be able to replace that computer soon. FML

Wow. You should sit down and have a serious talk with that water.

Why is it on the floor? It's called desktop computer, not floortop computer.

As a person with a gaming computer, I can tell you that they are huge and not meant to be placed on your desk. If you don't put it on your desk, then it can't fall off of your desk.

Where does it say Desktop? Could be a Laptop.

I guess it's not $2k anymore.

Now that it’s a piece of modern art commenting on technology, society and interpersonal communication, it should fetch at least $30k ... do I hear 40? 40? 40?

And your very expensive house, I'd assume was damaged too. I'd worry about that first.

A house is easily fixed and can be insured. You can't do that to files, can you?
ARISKomuniszt 24
Most people have file insurance too. Usually referred to as 'external hard drive' or for some, 'The cloud...'

You can backup files, like in a cloud, but you can't backup a house.

Homeowners insurance? If there's over $5000 in damage total and you have flood/water damage insurance (Which ever) I'd pull for it. Depends on your plans or not, check out your deductibles. Are you in an apartment on the first floor? Please tell me you have renters insurance! It's the cheapest to have and it covers it!

flooding is an act of God and insurance companies almost never cover those

If it wasn’t on then there’s a good chance if your fully dry it out it won’t be damaged.

I hear microwaving it might help. Or at least it might increase its charge.

Wrong! He should immerse the computer in about 100 lbs of uncooked rice for a month. When the month ends, he’ll still have a lot of uncooked rice. Hope that helps (hope you really like rice.)
