Today, I went to a family dinner. My grandma wasted no time calling me a slut for not wearing a dress, my dad called my police officer boyfriend a "fucking pig", and then he told my mother to "put a cock in it" when she defended me. No wonder I hardly ever visit these people. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my husband came home from a six-month business trip. When I saw him, I hugged and kissed him. My grandma started calling me a slutty whore, and told us we were a disgrace to our family, while trying to hit him with her cane. FML
Today, I went to my step-sister's for family dinner. Her husband was really drunk and openly hit on me in front of most of my family. I nonchalantly ignored his advances. Later, my step-mom said it would not have happened if I didn't dress like a skank. FML
Today, I took my boyfriend to a family dinner. It went well, until my dad got drunk and started telling everyone about how "midgets" are assholes and are ruining America. FML
Today, I went to see my grandmother. She has Alzheimer's and doesn't remember me sometimes, and today she thought I was her sister and that I was trying to steal my grandfather from her. She hit me with a cane and called me a slut. FML
Family time is best time
Today, I was listening to music while my grandma and mom were in the same room. I only had one headphone in. My mom, thinking I had both in, started telling my grandma how much of a "little bitch" I am. My grandma went on to say, "She's also a slut." FML
Thanks guys
Today, I decided to dress up a little to go out to the bar. I put on a nice shirt, some leggings, and heels. When I walked out the door, my dad said that I looked like a whore. When I got to my boyfriend's house I told him what my dad had said and he replied, "I'd have to agree with him." FML
Welcoming
Today, I was having lunch with my fiancé's family. After he excused himself to use the bathroom, his grandmother glared at me, sneered, "I never liked you" and kept eating while the others smirked. When my fiancé returned, everyone pretended nothing had happened. FML
Today, I visited my family. Over the course of 2 hours, my brother punched me, and my mom slapped me across the face after drinking way too much wine. When I started gathering my things to leave, my mom started crying about how I don't visit enough. FML
Today, I had to sit and smile as a drunk lady ranted about how body hair on a woman is disgusting and unfeminine, then in the next breath say that only pedos like women who shave their vaginas. That's the last time I ever have dinner with my boyfriend's parents. FML
Today, I got dragged along to a family dinner. Some idiot invited my douchebag vegan uncle, who spent half the night making condescending remarks and lecturing us on how disgusting it was to have steak on offer at the table. A fistfight eventually erupted, and the cops were called. FML

I think that's the first time I've ever heard of anyone being called a **** for NOT wearing a dress. And here I thought my family was weird.

Your family has some serious issues then, your father especially. From this one example, he seems very abusive, at least verbally, and I feel bad for you for having to be raised around a man like that. You should try to cut them out of your life, to protect yourself. Don't exhaust your emotional resources trying to change your relationship with them, because they're not going to change unless they want to. Maybe you could try to find a way to talk to your mother, though, without involving the others, since she stuck up for you. She's probably pretty miserable herself, being stuck around that all the time, so she might appreciate having some more communication with you, OP. Your life does suck though, and I honestly hope it'll get a little better for you. I hate abusive parental figures.

I think your mother had a justified reason to say that.

I think you read the FML wrong.

I'm thumbing you down for not only misreading the FML, but for your horrific username as well.

I'm sorry, but Coldplay is grossly overrated. While 15 deserves to be thumbed down for their comment, I personally think that there is no problem with that username.

The mother was defending her daughter. Wouldn't the girls grandmother calling her a **** and her father calling her boyfriend a ******* pig be a good reason to defend the girl? Am I missing something?
ohmandapants 17
^ we don't know what the mother said, therefore 15's comment makes no sense. Op's mother was right to defend her, yes.

#85, it's a matter of opinion.

You should have worn a dress! What kind of **** goes to a family dinner naked?

Better out than in I always say. Especially when it comes to female genitalia :). I wonder how good Shrek was at sex with that motto.

just a dysfunctional family at its finest

Wow this is one of those FMLs where I genuinely feel for you. Not funny at all. I'm sorry that's the situation with your family. You should really distance yourself from your dad and grandmother, that's just disgraceful abuse. No one wants to hear or think they'd have to do that with family, but their kind of behavior messes you up as a human being. I agree with the above commenter, I would try to talk to your mom, she is probably really unhappy with your father on a daily basis. Good luck op, maybe one day you can work through these issues. On the positive side, you have a loving husband, who is your own family now.

what husband? it's her boyfriend

Ok well whoops, thought it said husband for whatever reason. Maybe one day he'll become her husband who knows. :)

Wow. Just Wow. Sometimes in life, OP, you need to know when to stand up and just walk out. A measured amount of tolerance of family issues is one thing, but tolerance of this level of abuse? No. Just no. There has to be a time to stand up and say 'Folks, I'm done. When you can act like human beings feel free to conact me. Until then, I think I'll be ok on my own, thanks.

29- I was going to add my two cents, but you've gotten it so perfectly with this comment that I think I could just sit back and say "Completely agree with this guy." ;P My wife and I have aren't speaking to her side of the family for exactly this kind of crap, plus the abusive environment of her step father's violent drinking problem. We tried convincing them to get him some help, but eventually we gave up when we realized they just didn't care. We told them enough's enough, and not to contact us again until the abuse stops. It's been almost 5 years now, and nothing's changed, but it was the best decision for our children and we have no regrets. Maybe one day that'll change but I'm not holding my breath waiting, and i feel Op should do the same.

Did this happen in the restaurant? I hope they didn't make a scene. Sorry to hear that ): your dad is the one who needs to put a **** in it. Keep your head up!

Can definitely empathise with you there! Sounds exactly like my family! But my mother would of been the ring leader. She use to get great pleasure out of embarrassing me by asking me has my periods come while the whole family were seated at the table eating our meal :/

My friend's ex husband was a creep. He was so paranoid about his daughter's periods that he dug thru their laundry. To inspect their underwear to see signs of period blood to make sure they weren't pregnant.
