Today, I went snowboarding and fell backwards, hitting my head on a patch of ice. When I got home, I told my brother I thought I might have a concussion. He told me I should be a man and suck it, swiftly smacking my head, causing me to pass out. FML

Today, I was making a snowman with my little cousin. I was collecting snow just outside the house, when out of nowhere a snowball struck me in the back of the head and caused me to headbutt the wall. I woke up a short while later to a medic telling me I had a nasty concussion. Thanks, cousin. FML
Today, I went snowboarding for the first time. I was so scared that I passed out. I was only on the kiddie hill. FML
Today, at a ski resort, I tried to impress an attractive girl on the slopes and failed, horribly. I ended up with a mild concussion and some serious cuts after tripping, tumbling and hitting my head against the ground. I don't think she was impressed. FML
Today, I got a concussion. It was when an entire shelf of bicycle helmets tumbled onto my skull. FML
Today, I ran up to my boyfriend to kiss him when he got home from work. I tripped and I fell on him, and he fell backwards. He ended up hitting his head on the sidewalk and had to get stitches. He also had a concussion. FML
Today, I fell asleep on the couch and my boyfriend thought it would be cute to carry me to bed. He knocked my head on the door frame and I pretended it didn't hurt because he felt so bad, but I shouldn't have. I was rushed to the hospital hours later with a concussion. FML
Today, I passed out. I fell to the hardwood floor, cut my chin, and bit through my lip. Fortunately, my brother was there to help stop the bleeding and get me some water. All I had to do was wait until he finished his game of Call of Duty. FML
Today, while making out with my boyfriend, I sneezed so hard that my head shot forward and smashed against his, sending his head backwards against the wall. He ended up with a concussion, and I still feel like someone hit me over the head with a chair. FML
Today, I slipped on my icy front porch, fell back, and hit my head on the step. I tried to get up, but lost my balance and fell halfway into the bush next to the steps. I then looked up to see my very hot, British, ex-Special Forces next door neighbor laughing so hard he dropped his snow shovel. FML
Today, I'm well aware that this is my own fault, but I went to a friend's house after working late. Ran towards the friend's front door and hit my head a tree limb that I didn't see. Flipped over, landed on the lawn, and blacked out for a minute. I got up, was dizzy, tripped, and fell on friend's porch. Second concussion in a year. FML

YDI for not wearing a helmet. It's a good idea to wear one while snowboarding, but it's a must to wear it while talking to your brother since he's known to deliver random head shots.

if you hit your head hard enough a helmet isnt going to help a whole lot.... and you arent necessarily going to feel too bad to start with, I hit my head hard once and didnt feel dizzy or anything until a good half an hour later.. you people on FML assume too much...

While it may be true that if you hit your head hard enough a helmet isn't going to help a whole lot, it certainly wouldn't hurt any would it? I can't think of a single situation in which a person who is hits their head while wearing a helmet has ever regretted having the helmet on. I can however think of many situations in which people did regret not having a helmet on. If the OP wasn't wearing a helmet when they smacked their head on the ice than it is kind of their fault that the concussion is as bad as it is. If they were wearing a helmet and managed to hit their head hard enough that the helmet helped that little than it is definitly an FYL situation.

That's horrifying. I appreciate having the knowledge that something like that happened but it is still quite horrifying. As you said though, those circumstances are unusual and over all it is better to have the helmet than not. I'd say that's especially true if you are doing something like snowboarding where the risk of falling is high.

People wear back protectors, arse padding, ankle supports, gloves etc to protect them on the slopes... If you hurt these parts of the body they can be fixed. If you smack your head with enough force you can do serious damage, not something a couple of paracetamol and some rest can fix. Wear a ******* helmet.

He should mention to the doctor about the brother's smack and omit the snowboarding incident. That way, if he dies, the brother will be up for murder -- and that will sure teach him a lesson!
