Today, I was working at a place where if you're tipped, you sing. After a lady paid for her ice cream, she pulled out 5 dollars. Thinking it was a tip, I took it, and sang the song. She didn't mean to tip me. I was stopped by the woman slapping me. FML

Today, I was working at Coldstone. When a customer tips us we are required to sing. A late night DJ came in, put 20 dollars in the tip cup, and asked to hear every song we had. After we sang one song he looked at me and asked me to please stop singing or he was taking his money back. FML
Today, a lady handed me a $10 tip on a $45 bill. I was happy with it, since it was more than 20%, until she came back in and said, "I'm sorry I gave you the wrong amount." I handed it back to her and then she gave me a dollar. FML
Today, while working at a restaurant, an elderly lady stuck my tip in my back pocket as I was walking away. I wish I knew this before I'd thrown her to the floor for touching my hiney. FML
Today, while at work, a customer gave me a $20 tip. I explained to him we aren't allowed to accept tips, but he insisted. When I called the manager to report it, he pocketed my tip. FML
Today, while waiting for my order at a restaurant, a woman walked up to me and slapped me. She looked at me for a moment and said "Sorry, I thought you were someone else." Ten minutes later, the same woman came back and slapped me again. FML
Today, I'm a waitress. A customer came in and acted very kindly and even mentioned how I was such a help to her. She also mentioned leaving a nice tip. The tip? A fake $20. Thanks. FML
Today, a customer handed me a 100 dollar bill. He then told me that it was my tip for doing a good job. He snatched it away just as I touched it, laughed, and said, "Just kidding." He then took his money and left the store. FML
Today, I was at my work. To urge people to be generous, I paid my friends to put 15 bucks in the tip jar while saying how great I was. He did this about ten times throughout the day. Turns out, us employees don't get to keep the tips. FML
Today, I was at work as a grocery store cashier. I felt a hand slap my ass. Turning around I saw an old man winking at me and I screamed. When my manager came to deal with the problem she didn't believe me and gave the man a $25 gift card for "the trouble" I caused. FML
Today, I helped a lady carry her grocery bags to her car. She was so grateful that she offered me a tip. I refused, but she insisted. When I finally took it, I looked at the bill to see she'd given me $1. I smiled and said thank you, but she looked at me like I’d just robbed her. FML

18 - But slapping OP was incredibly unnecessary. She could have just politely said that it wasn't meant to be a tip and asked if she could have her change. Instead, she blew the situation out of proportion and acted bitchily.

It was a mistake and it was also five dollars. To some people that might be a lot to lose, but if you're out buying ice cream I'd like to hope you're not spending the small amount of money you have on that (unless you really need it y'know sometimes it helps to eat sweets) So assuming the lady didn't have a problem with spending five dollars, that's such an overreaction. She's in a store where people sometimes give tips, not out on the street in the middle of the night.

I read it like that too at first but if you read back the whole thing it's very unlikely that's what was meant...doesn't really make sense. I'm sure OP would've had a different reaction if she just took money from the tip bowl.

That's what I thought. If the lady was just pulling it out of her wallet and he took it without her handing it to him, it's a YDI. If she did hand it to him, its a FML.

I was going to apply there but then found out about the singing.... Noo. I don't sing. I'd work there as a last resort. I think it's a pretty dumb policy. It's not like the customers want to hear you sing either. :P
