Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
For better, for worse
Today, my boyfriend and I went shopping for an engagement ring. We ended up breaking up in the process. FML
Today, I found out my boyfriend was going to propose. He'd bought me a beautiful white gold ring that I never got to see. His estranged mom stole the ring. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he's prepared to commit to marriage, but only if I buy my own ring and tell everyone he surprised me with it. FML
Today, I went to a jeweler's to buy a ring to propose to my girlfriend. When I was at the restaurant, in mid-proposal, with people watching, I realized I had left the ring in the store. FML
Today, I was shopping for rings with my fiancée. We spent over two hours selecting the perfect ring and diamond to match. When filling out the paperwork I discovered I left my wallet at home. She had to pay the 20% down payment for the ring. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed. He said we’d go pick up the ring tomorrow. Then he asked to borrow $40 to get it out of pawn. He pawned it when his ex gave it back to him. FML
Today, my boyfriend won a diamond engagement ring through a citywide competition. Instead of proposing to me, he's selling it. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 4 years proposed to me. I said yes and he gave me an engagement ring. He immediately went to call his mom to tell her the happy news. After the phone call, he asked if he could return the ring because his mom needed money. FML
Today, my fiancé told me he didn't have the money to make payments on my engagement ring and that I either have to return it, or make the payments myself. Now we aren't engaged any more, and are "dating." FML
Swoon
Today, my boyfriend said he wanted to marry me. Since he doesn't know my ring size, he asked for me to find a ring that I liked, and he would buy it and propose. The only problem is that he won't spend more than 200 dollars on it. Oh, the generosity. FML

DON'T MARRY A GUY WITH BAD CREDIT! see about paying off some debt, or making more payments on time for a few years. when his numbers increase, then you can marry him! once you're married--his debt IS YOUR DEBT.

My parents had the worst credit imaginable. But they where still able to make a loving family ( which included 3 intelligent children, and 3 pets). And this lasted until cancer toke my dad. Love is worth WAY MORE then money / credit , and love not $ will get you through the bad times.

47, one of the leading causes of divorce is financial troubles and disagreements about how to manage them. Love is great if you're into that shit, but you can't sell it on Craigslist when you need to make the rent payment...well, not unless you have a very open marriage.

Bad credit doesn't matter if you pay for stuff in cash. How about paying for stuff instead of making yourself a slave to the bank? It's what I do.

That's not a universal truth, legally. I did not acquire my husband's defaulted student loan debt or bankruptcy because it was premarital debt. Of course, if they want to buy a house together, his credit will be more of an issue.

Maybe hers is worse then his.

I agree with 48 that money is the leading reason that people get divorced however that is not the cause. Any matter can be settled in a relationship if the couple thinks it is worth fighting for. If they truly love each other, and believe in fixing something rather than throwing it away, then any problem, eve financial, can be resolved. I have been there on way worse than financial issues. (No, my husband nor I cheated or beat each other) there are far worse things than money.

"Any matter," 95? And then you referenced spousal abuse later in your comment? The "true love and hard work conquers all" theory is fine on the surface, as long as both parties are committed to it. If the person you're with isn't willing to work at all or is abusive, it's simply not worth your mental health trying to push forward.

Well that's fantastic.

I feel bad for you OP, that's embarrassing, but this could also be a warning. If his credit is bad it will take a while for him to be in good credit standing. It's possible that he will rely on you in that regard until his credit is ok. Renting a place, buying a car all those things are going to be more difficult and should be considered.

Wave goodbye to the ring. And that "days without an awkward incident" sign in your brain.
