Today, I was going to surprise my boyfriend at his family birthday celebration with a $2,000 trip he's always wanted, Ireland. Right before my gift, he had opened his mother's gift, an envelope containing a plane ticket. Guess where it was going? FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Surprise!
Today, I flew home early from a two-month trip to Europe to surprise my boyfriend on his birthday. When I got to his house with a home baked cake from scratch and a quilt with silk-screened pictures from my trip, his roommate answered the door and said, "Oh sorry, he's out with his girlfriend." FML
Today, I found out that the money my boyfriend has "secretly" been putting away for the last two months is not for an engagement ring like I'd thought, but for a trip to Vegas I'm not invited to. FML
Today, I got back from my daughter's flat in Scotland. I got a flight there yesterday morning to surprise her on her 21st birthday. Nobody told her I was coming. When I got there, it turned out she decided to get a plane to London to surprise me. £200 on flights, and I didn't even get to see her. FML
Today, I wanted to surprise my long distance girlfriend by flying to her unannounced. When I arrived at her house, her family tells me that she herself boarded an unannounced flight to where I lived hours ago. Surprise. FML
Today, I flew into New Zealand to surprise my girlfriend on her trip. In the New Zealand Airport I received a text message saying she wanted to break up with me. I live in Michigan and just spent $1,500 for this romantic surprise. FML
Treat yourself
Today, my fiancée bought me a luxury getaway to the Maldives, complete with a five-star hotel and first-class plane tickets. Too bad she used my credit card, with all the money I was saving for our wedding. FML
Cheap-ass lying bro-bro!
Today, I found out my boyfriend is booking my dream vacation to Bali with his brothers, 6 months after he told me we couldn't go on vacation this year because he doesn’t have the money. They planned this within a week. I had been planning it with him for months. FML
Today, after working another double shift because I want to buy my boyfriend a really expensive anniversary present, I get to his apartment to find him calculating in how many paychecks he'll be able to afford a Caribbean getaway. For himself. FML
You ******* idiot
Today, I spent 900 dollars on a ticket for my boyfriend to visit me and he missed the flight. FML
The cat's out of the bag
Today, my partner's mother and I had been planning a little surprise get-together for his birthday. A surprise weeks in the making was ruined by my dad asking, "Aren't you supposed to be going to (his parent's town name) this afternoon?" in front of him. Thanks dad. FML

that's what i was thinking. before you bought the tickets, you should have talked to his family in order to see if you guys could coordinate presents (like someone giving euros, someone giving clothes for the trip, etc.). if you did so, you wouldn't have this problem. i hope that you can cancel the plans for the trip and get back your money. or better yet, go on the trip as well! good luck!

My father and I once bought the same type of ping pong balls for each other. We'd just gotten new kittens (5 of them, plus their mother) and they loved ping pong balls, and we loved watching them play. Of course, it wasn't as if we couldn't use both sets and they weren't very expensive.

ya! this should be on MLIG (: now yall can go together and be so happyy

my thoughts exactly. OP said the mom's envelope only contained one ticket, at least, and there's no mention that she intended to go with him when she bought his ticket. it might kinda suck to spend $2000 on a trip you weren't planning on taking yourself, but at least now you get to spend that time with your boyfriend. :)

I've always wanted to see Ireland...one guy I spoke to who's from there said it sucked. When I asked why he's like "just cuz"....killjoy... OP I think you should just go with him. You paid for a ticket yourself.

honestly, you people are so damn arrogant. Ireland is a great place. I hate how everyone stereotypes all irish people as drunks. Most of my family lives in Ireland, and half of them are not drinkers, and I know a lot of people that are Irish and are not alcoholics. Yes, of course there are a lot of drinkers in Ireland, but what about the rest of Europe? Germany, England.
Irish_mess 0
Thank you! Im Irish and yes I do drink but Im in no way an alcoholic! I hate the stereotype as well, I can take a joke but when people actually start believing everyones the same as the stereotype it gets annoying (the reason for me seeming so angry in other comments, sorry about that :L)

Yes, everyone drinks a ton in Ireland, but it also has gorgeous scenery. I lived there for a year, and I would never LIVE there again (too much ******* rain), but I would definitely visit.
T1A2Z3 35
Okay... no we don't all drink a tonne... it is actually mostly the tourists who drink... And the rain is the best you just have to get used to it. Better than all that gross sun stuff. And as we need to divulge this all now, I am Irish 100% and I don't drink and neither do a lot of people I know because it's just not enjoyable for everyone.
TheBananaTheif 0
irish people like drinking so much because they have the highest tolerance level for alcohol out of anywhere in the world. so they don't become alcoholics as easily.

YDI for wanting to go to Ireland !

She doesn't wanna go to Ireland, he does.
SKYblue_fml 1
not only is it not HER that wants to go, but your reasoning for "YDI" is dumb

His name is "ydi_bitch" so I think the term "obvious troll is obvious" isn't powerful enough
