Today, I was at school deleting documents I no longer needed on my school account. After clicking empty trash can, I saw a final paper on political science deleted. I'm not in political science, and I wasn't deleting files on my account. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was trying to show my mother how much detail I'd put into a group project that I had to present tomorrow. I then deleted the project, thinking that I was just removing it from my phone. Everyone's research and my three days of hard work went with it. FML
Pile up
Today, I was separating my notes into two piles: one to save for exam studying and one to throw out. I finished separating, picked up the junk pile, and absentmindedly shredded it. Afterwards, I looked down to see the junk pile still completely intact. Goodbye, passing grades. FML
YouTuber brain
Today, I accidentally deleted my YouTube account because I was trying to eliminate distractions from school. My dumb self eventually realized all I had to do was stop uploading, and return to it during my vacation. FML
Today, I was told that, although I was sick on the last day before break, they would still accept the 24 page essay that I had written. Tonight, as I went to print it out, I found that my dad had "cleaned up a bit" on my computer, including the documents from last semester. I have school tomorrow. FML
Today, my mother decided to "help me" by throwing out the stack of papers on my desk. Unfortunately, those were all my notes for my final exams. FML
Today, whilst cleaning out his desk, my dad "accidentally" threw away my summer homework. That's 100 pages, over a duration of 2 months. School starts in 3 days. FML
Today, I realized how much I'm on the computer. I tried to "CTRL+Z" on something I wrote down on my paper. FML
Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!
Today, I was writing an essay while sleep-deprived. In between actually writing, I started typing my thoughts. It was only after I’d submitted the essay that I realized that I hadn’t deleted the random words. My teacher can see my early-morning rambling about potatoes. I have no way to delete it. FML
Oh no…
Today, I went through my spam folder. I found out that I'd received several emails telling me that I have been sending emails containing essays for a class of mine to the wrong address. The term ended yesterday. FML
Today, I went to check my grade, which was posted for an essay for my comp 1 class. I got a zero. I was devastated only to find out I never actually clicked the submit document button. My grade dropped 20 points. FML

surely you looked at the files you were deleting before you sent them to the recycling bin to make sure they were the right ones? Didn't you realise that you didn't recognise any of the files before you were emptying the recycle bin? Also, as others have said speak to IT ASAP and they can hopefully recover the files. :-/

I've seen quite a few people, when I was in school, who gave their documents very generic names such as "English1" or "History3". It sounds like it may have been the same case for OP who only noticed the mistake on the last document for a political science class. I try to avoid the problem by putting my name and date in addition to the subject/topic in the title.

You are right #21. I had it in my head that op was at uni not school, in school most people take similar classes so it is much easier for mistakes like this to happen.

Others stated the obvious of not recognizing files... But how on earth did you forget you never signed in?

That's what I was thinking. How do you sit down at a computer that's already logged into an account and not realize that it clearly can't be yours since you haven't logged in yet.

As someone else pointed out, it's possible they got up, then sat back down at someone else's computer

A document on political science should nevertheless be deleted.

Suprised you did not notice they were not your files.

I feel like this is totally your fault for failing to notice that the titles to the documents weren't you own.... More like F their life.

I hope you told the IT people the same day. Servers tend to refresh overnight.

If the files were on a network, they may have been protected by snapshots such as volume shadow copy, these can go back quite some time (at least two weeks).
