Today, I told my mom that my wife and I got her a birthday present, but she won't be getting it until April. That instantly pissed her off, cussing us out calling us cheap worthless selfish bastards. I was about to surprise her that she's finally going to be a grandma. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I gave my wife a birthday present. For months she'd been talking about an expensive treadmill that she wanted, so I bought it. Her reaction when she saw it was to yell, "YOU THINK I'M FAT!" and burst into tears. FML
#Childfree
Today, my mother-in-law asked me when my fiancé and I were going to start having children. When I told her we weren't planning on having any, she went on a tirade about how selfish and cold I am for denying her precious grandchildren. Now she hates me. FML
Gift ideas
Today, I sent my mom an email with "Bad news" as the subject. At the end of her reply, she said, "And don't scare me! I thought you were going to tell me you're pregnant!" I AM pregnant, and wanted to surprise her on her birthday. Guess I should get her something less disappointing. FML
It's the (saucy) thought that counts (or not)
Today, I surprised my wife with some new lingerie for our upcoming anniversary, thinking she would like it. Instead of a thank you, I got an ungrateful attitude from her instead. FML
You're welcome!
Today, I called my mom to let her know I was coming home for my upcoming birthday, as I haven’t seen my parents in months. She then stated she hated my birthday because it reminded her she was getting older, and they may have preexisting plans that evening anyways. Really feeling the family love… FML
Today, I found out that I'm going to be a father. Too bad I can't tell my wife. FML
Today, my husband and I told my parents that I finally managed to conceive. My mom burst into tears of joy and said how great it was that she's finally going to be a "real" grandma, all within earshot of our adopted and now-devastated daughter. FML
It's my special day
Today, for the third day in a row, my wife is bitching about her terrible birthday. She had messages wishing her a happy birthday from her friends instead of actual calls. Also, she knew that my pay comes in the day after, and she agreed to go shopping with me, as opposed to a present on the day. She is 54, going on 7. FML
Today, I bought my mother an expensive TV she had been looking at. After I bought it, she continued browsing for more stuff. I told her I couldn't afford the extra items. She got mad and called me "selfish". FML
Today, I bought my girlfriend a very expensive necklace. I gave it to her thinking she'd be extremely happy. Instead she was mad at me because my gift for our anniversary was better than hers. FML

She has a point. You can't just do a thing you were going to do anyway and pass that off as a birthday present.

She didn’t know it was a grandchild when she got mad. She was pissed off about not getting, what she thought, was a material gift. Chances are OP was still planning on getting her a card a regular gift as well.

Not true at all. All you have to do is cancel your order by sticking a coat hanger in your lady friend's ****** and working it around a little, and your problem is solved.

WHAT TYPE OF PERSON ARE YOU?!

I would hope that she changed her tune once she finds out that she’s going to be an grandma. But congratulation!

You could have given her a dead rabbit but I probably would have just thrown some buns in the oven.

I guess some people don't know the saying "the rabbit died" refers to how they used to test for pregnancy using rabbits.

I’ll bet you’re also going to count that as her Mother’s Day gift, too! Cheapskates!

Once you show the grandkid that video, I bet he/she'll be pissed off too

Cheap, yes. Worthless, I wouldn’t know... The idea is nice, but who the **** says something like that? “Mom, happy birthday! The only “present” we have for you has to wait about 7 months, because we’re too broke to even get you a card.” (Mom): “Don’t you realize that that baby is going to cost you much more than a card?! And let’s not forget what happens if you two divorce before s/he turns 18!”

It’s funny people are assuming this actually was her birthday present, rather than just a cute way to tell her about the pregnancy.

BECAUSE; YOU MORON, HE SAYS, “Today I told my my mom we GOT HER A BIRTHDAY PRESENT, BUT SHE WON’T BE GETTING IT UNTIL APRIL.” So OBVIOUSLY, that WAS the only present. God, I hate stupid people!

"A" present, no where does it say "only present"

OP - Not a very smart move trying to tie in Mom’s birthday with your intended baby announcement. Learn from this, do not mix events and announcements. If it’s an important event or announcement it deserves its own space - not to be used as a tie in or replacement of something else. Having said that, it’s also somewhat immature and petty on Mom’s part to react so badly before you had the opportunity to explain. But you should have known better than to make your announcement this way.
