Today, I slipped money into my mother's purse after she refused to let me pay for lunch. She caught me in the act and thought I was stealing money from her instead. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I caught my sister taking money from my wallet. When I confronted her, she claimed that she was actually putting back money that she had stolen earlier. She doesn't understand the irony. FML
Piggy banked
Today, I discovered my own mother has been stealing money from me for months when I opened my savings box to find it empty. FML
Today, I was so ashamed of being broke that instead of asking my parents for money, I snuck into their house while they were at work to steal some of their food. FML
Today, my mother "borrowed" money from my stash to help pay for her vacation to the Dominican Republic. The same trip I'm not allowed to go on. FML
Today, I caught and kicked a shoplifter out of my store. The shoplifter was my mom. FML
Technically, that's stealing
Today, I told my mom about the $50 I'd hidden in case of an emergency, and how I couldn't find it. She said she'd borrowed it last week. FML
Today, on my way to school I dropped my money. As I turned to pick it up, I saw an old lady snatch it up. We began to argue when a police officer came over. Not only was I accused of being a disorderly thief, but that old lady just walked away with my lunch money for the entire week. FML
Thieves like us
Today, my mom stole my holiday money because she found it “near her bag” in my kitchen and “assumed it was hers” and she must have “forgotten it was in there all this time.” I demanded it back, but she’d already spent it on hair, nails, shoes, and a date night with dad. She won’t pay me back either. FML
Trust
Today, my mom accused me of stealing money from her purse. Being totally innocent, I reminded her that the only other person with access to it is her boyfriend. She said she trusts him because she loves him. They've been dating for two months. I've been her daughter for 25 years. FML
Today, while at the grocery store, I saw my mother. I thought it would be funny to scare her by sneaking up and grabbing her ass. Not only was it not my mom, I left the place with a ban from ever returning to that store. FML

Hopefully you explained the situation and she understood, otherwise that would suck

I'm the same way OP. Now that I'm older, I pay for things that my mom would have usually paid for. Kind of like a "thank you" for being a great mom. Hopefully once you explain she'll understand.

You can't blame your mum for thinking that

wouldn't you kind of hope your mom would know you better than that?

Especially after you had been offering her money.

You couldn't have just left the money somewhere else? You should never go into a woman's purse.

You should have just let your mom pay for lunch. Moms love to pay for their children every now and again when they get older. It makes them feel good!

Good intentions. Bad results.

Hopefully she understood. Seems fairly obvious it was the other way around, as you had just insisted on paying for the meal... I hope she's not immune to logic

Apologize anyway and let her keep the money. You still get to help her out and she can save her pride
