Today, I sleep during the day because I work nights. My neighbors have a very loud wedding and reception in their backyard including a live mariachi band. FML

Today, after having finally kicked my insomnia's ass after three hours, I was woken up by something I only thought happened in movies. Someone had paid for a Mariachi band to play for their girlfriend, outside my apartment building, in the middle of the night. FML
Today, my neighbours had an extremely loud party, which began at midnight and didn't end until 6. I know this because I had a 15 minute sleep, seeing as I had to wake up at quarter past. FML
Today, it's been three days since I started working 12-hour night shifts. My neighbors have now decided to renovate their house. They're focusing on the rooms sharing my wall. FML
Today, I left messages in every neighbors' mailbox telling them to please be quiet at 2, as my daughter was getting married in my backyard. At 2:01 someone started practicing the drums in their garage. FML
Today, it's the second night in a row when I thought, "I really need to catch up on my sleep deficit!" and instead had an even shittier night than the one before. My neighbours just started a party right under my window. FML
Today, just like every workday for the last 6 months, the construction workers in my building made loud noises in the morning and woke me up almost 2 hours before I would otherwise have to get up. This will continue for one more year. I'm not a morning person, and I live in a protected historical building. FML
Today, like every other day since I moved into this apartment a year ago, the construction crew started their noisy work at 5:30 in the morning. When I moved in I was promised it was a quiet neighborhood; only offices. What have they been building in the meantime? Three nightclubs. FML
Today, the people living below me have been blasting their music so loudly that I can hear every word as clear as day. The people next door think it's my music and feel the need to bang on the wall and blast their music just as loudly in revenge. I have two very important exams tomorrow. FML
Today, it's the second week into my new neighbors' routine. He works nights, she works days. He likes to blast out Slayer and Napalm Death all day, she likes to drunkenly sing out of tune to Adele all night. I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown. FML
Today, I learned from the noise outside my window that construction workers start their days at 5 AM. FML

My neighbours were having a regular party in their home once and let nearby residents know in advance, it's common curtesy and then he could have planned ahead and booked a cheap hotel room to sleep in that day

you'd book a cheap hotel to avoid noise...? you could just invest in a hearing reduction device.. working nights and stuff doesn't mean your neighbour's should be in trouble for noise during the day, and you can't be surprised, working nights and all.. I've never heard of a neighbor knocking on doors to let people know of a party at midday. . at night, late etc, yeah... but at normal hours there are no noise restrictions where I live.

.. Or let's hope it does go well, partly because they didn't do anything to deserve it to go badly, but also because by your logic, if it goes well they won't need to hold anymore mariachi band-weddings while OP is trying to sleep..

There is a special alarm clock for deaf people - vibrating armband. People put it on their wrist [arm, ankle, somewhere], set the time and it vibrates at that time.

If you can't beat them join them. Sometimes it's a lot better then complaining or getting frustrated. Hopefully it didn't last all day and you have to go that night to work. I've been there and feel your pain.
