Today, I shared the story of my younger brother's unexpected death with a friend. After telling him the story, I looked at him with teary eyes and he looked back into my eyes and said "I understand how you feel. That is almost as bad as when I lost my cat last spring term." FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, while I was at work, I was on the verge of tears. My coworker asked what was wrong and I explained that I recently had to put my dog down. He then replied, "Cool story, bro. Tell it again." FML
Today, my little brother learned about mortality when our dog died. Since then, he's gone a little nuts and keeps ranting that he sees no point as to why our other dog should live. He's 16. FML
Today, I was crying because my cat died. My boyfriend cupped my face in his hands, looked me straight into the eyes and said, "I love seeing you cry." FML
Today, I had to put my 17 year-old cat down. I cried the whole way up to the vet's office and back. After finally coming to terms with the situation, and trying to forget, my dad's friend walks up to me and says, "So, I heard you killed your cat?" FML
Today, my sister asked me how my boyfriend was doing. He died two years ago. She was the first person I told. FML
Today, my brother called me up. He said he needed to talk to me. Whenever someone says that, I naturally I get nervous. He said, "I gave one of my friends your number." I was shocked and asked why. "Your life makes me sad." FML
Today, my brother's life was ripped apart. His wife has chosen to no longer be his wife and is trying to keep his dog as well. My brother has always been proud of his family and hopeful for the future. He will spring back, but this came out of left field. FML
Today, I realized how friendless and lonely I am. I cried this morning as I recalled my older (20 to my 16) brother visiting last weekend. He began his visit by hugging me and saying, "I love you sis', thanks for letting me be your brother." His affection to me is the only hug someone not my parents has given me in two years. FML
Today, I introduced my coworker to my friend's boyfriend. When I mentioned his name, she started crying. Apparently he has the same first name as her twin brother, who died shortly after birth, so that name has become a bit of a sore spot for her. I didn't even know she had a twin. FML
Today, I got a new, short haircut. Now I look like my little brother who died two years ago. FML

I wasnt at all saying that this guy wasnt hurt by it.. i am saying I dont care who it is you dont tell me that your cat is almost as bad as my little brother dying.. an 18 year old boy who was 8 days from his 19th brithday and in his senoir year in high school who has a rare defect in his brain but was perfectly healthy up until the point that he died. He was healthy always so they never knu he had the defect in his brain.. he goes off to school and drops dead when he was perfectly fine and im crying to u about it and u tell me that its almost mine u ALMOST as bad as your cat dying!!! NO FML!! U cant tell me that i shuddnt be pissed.. i dnt care how much u love pets.. even if ur a pet person and u have a dog that youve had since u were 3 and he got shot by ur neighbor and someone comes to you and says.. well thats almost as bad as when i lost my gunnie pig 5 years ago!! you would be pissed.. thats how i felt.. so thanks very much .. and i see he inst crazy there are plenty of people out here who are just like him. you dont tell someone that... especially when it jus happened!

there are obviously many people here contradicting the op and bringing their own stories from experience, demonstrating that this is clearly a subjective subject. individuals grieve in different ways and to different degrees, and we do not have the right or ability to judge the pain of others.

I fail to see how people can grow to love animals more than certain people, sure you can grow fond of an animal and the way it acts, but you will never have a conversation with it. It is beyond me.

Its no surprise when people love animals more than certain people. I love my cat a hell of a lot more than my abusive ex-step-father. It's when people love their animals more than ALL people that it becomes puzzling.

Tbh, if you see someone EVERY day and EVERY night, you become very...attached. now, he said "lost", which can either mean it died or it was just...lost. Like, running off or something. When my cat died, it had a greater impact then my great-gran who died the week after. I really didn't like that Christmas. Actually, it was the Christmas just gone.

people on here are just like your friend- wrong. Death is way too touchy to be exposing on fml to b prodded at. Perhaps your friend meant his empathy for you is almost as strong as the feelings he had about his cat's death.

118- Losing a pet is NOT the same as losing a friend. 2 of my pets died. My guinea pig died because my neighbor was too lazy to feed her while I was on vacation and my cat died because she was old. But those losses are nothing compared to family and people's deaths.

ppl are sooo gonna hate me for this. but i would cry if my dog or cat were to die. but i would not even shed a tear if my sister dies. i think i would actualy see her corpse, say " heh karma is a bitch" leave and not even participate at her funeral... call me an insesetive bitch if you want to. but thats my honest opinion...

If my sister died, I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror. Me and my sister are extremely close, even though she's 6 years older. We look almost exactly the same (well, that's wwhat everyone tells us). I would sob for forever and a day if my sister died. I wish I could say that I want to die first so I eouldn't have to go through the pain, but then she would have to go through the pain of my death, so I'm not sure what to do. I think I like my sister more than she likes me though lol.
