Today, I shared the story of my younger brother's unexpected death with a friend. After telling him the story, I looked at him with teary eyes and he looked back into my eyes and said "I understand how you feel. That is almost as bad as when I lost my cat last spring term." FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, while I was at work, I was on the verge of tears. My coworker asked what was wrong and I explained that I recently had to put my dog down. He then replied, "Cool story, bro. Tell it again." FML
Today, my little brother learned about mortality when our dog died. Since then, he's gone a little nuts and keeps ranting that he sees no point as to why our other dog should live. He's 16. FML
Today, I was crying because my cat died. My boyfriend cupped my face in his hands, looked me straight into the eyes and said, "I love seeing you cry." FML
Today, I had to put my 17 year-old cat down. I cried the whole way up to the vet's office and back. After finally coming to terms with the situation, and trying to forget, my dad's friend walks up to me and says, "So, I heard you killed your cat?" FML
Today, my sister asked me how my boyfriend was doing. He died two years ago. She was the first person I told. FML
Today, my brother called me up. He said he needed to talk to me. Whenever someone says that, I naturally I get nervous. He said, "I gave one of my friends your number." I was shocked and asked why. "Your life makes me sad." FML
Today, my brother's life was ripped apart. His wife has chosen to no longer be his wife and is trying to keep his dog as well. My brother has always been proud of his family and hopeful for the future. He will spring back, but this came out of left field. FML
Today, I realized how friendless and lonely I am. I cried this morning as I recalled my older (20 to my 16) brother visiting last weekend. He began his visit by hugging me and saying, "I love you sis', thanks for letting me be your brother." His affection to me is the only hug someone not my parents has given me in two years. FML
Today, I introduced my coworker to my friend's boyfriend. When I mentioned his name, she started crying. Apparently he has the same first name as her twin brother, who died shortly after birth, so that name has become a bit of a sore spot for her. I didn't even know she had a twin. FML
Today, I got a new, short haircut. Now I look like my little brother who died two years ago. FML

"Almost as bad" ??? WHAT IS YOUR FRIEND'S PROBLEM!!! Some people are close to their pets and it sound like he/she loved their cat. I am not saying that animals lives aren't as meaningful as humans, but pet deaths aren't nearly as hard to deal with. I am very sorry.

Others have said similar things already, but I'll put it succinctly: While a pet-person relationship can be as close and dear as a person-person relationship, saying 'that is almost as bad as' shows complete disregard for OP's grief. It is so disrespectful and conceited to say that one's sadness is greater than another's in comparable situations.

Losing a pet is bad... But a brother? Me and my brother get pissed but every once and a while I imagine what I'd do if he died, and I hope I die first
