Today, I received the bill for my trip to the ER months ago. Almost $1000 for a quick 2.5 hour stay, only to find out that I had bad gas from drinking far too much of the seltzer I had bought on sale. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was telling my wife how being told to drink water all day when you're not even thirsty is "such a scam". Suddenly, I felt an excruciating pain in my abdomen. The ER had to give me IV fluids because I was so constipated from dehydration. The bill was over $2000. FML
Today, I had horrible pains in my stomach area so I went to the doctors. They couldn't find anything wrong and sent me to the Emergency Room for X-rays. After spending the entire day in the hospital, they tell me I'm slightly constipated. I had to pay $400 to find out I had to take a shit. FML
Estoy Poopin
Today, I cracked my back while pooping at work. It was so bad I had to go to the hospital and get carried out of the toilet by paramedics. A $4,000 bill later, my coworkers will not shut up about how funny it is. FML
Cost effective
Today, I arrived at a cheap but nice hotel. I normally couldn't pay for it, but it was only slightly more expensive than camping, so I decided to treat myself. Ten minutes after arriving, I felt dizzy while standing in the bathroom, sat down on the toilet, and broke the lid almost in half. It'll cost me 50 euros extra. FML
Today, I woke up my friend and had him take me to the ER. I had trouble breathing and my chest hurt, so the doctor put me on an EKG and took X-rays. I had strained my chest lifting weights at the gym earlier that day and pulled a muscle, and now thanks to my massive anxiety I have a $700 hospital bill. FML
Today, I went to a fast-food joint and ordered off the $1.00 menu to save money. Five hours later I go to the hospital with food-poisoning. After a whole day of not eating, crapping, puking, having tests, and a bunch of IV fluids, my $1.00 burger ended up costing me $2,000 in bills. Really. FML
Delay, deny, defend
Today, I finally got insurance after months of paperwork, and so I went to the doctor. I was billed $873 for a "consultation" that pretty much consisted of being weighed and told to "Google it." FML
This is America
Today, I have only been back at work for one week after elbow surgery, which was followed immediately by hospitalization for diabetic ketoacidosis, which caused a severe flare up of my gout. The hospital bill is over $3,200 with insurance, and I just tested positive for COVID. FML
Today, I was tired from an all-nighter I'd pulled because I thought I had the next four days off work. I got called in, and went because I have bills to pay. However, the amount of energy drinks I drank to stay on top of my job duties gave me such bad diarrhea, I had to go home. FML
Today, I went out for some very expensive sushi. Two hours later, I found myself on the toilet, violently voiding my bowels. I essentially paid to have liquid orange shit. FML

America, **** yeah! I think, and I'll probably get criticized for this, that downing an excessive amount of seltzer, only to develop bad gas as a result, is a fairly big YDI. Having said that, I will retract my comment should you inform me that this was your first time ever drinking a carbonated beverage, and you genuinely had no idea how your body would react to it.

how how how does that cost $1000? no wonder people die if they don't want to get things checked out due to the bills! that is ridiculous

My guess is OP doesn't have health insurance, and probably had to have a few tests before finding the answer. That can get pretty pricey in the good ol' USA. Freedom isn't free, you know.

Honestly, for 2.5 hrs, I’m surprised it was only $1000.

It costs that much to prevent people who aren’t sick at all but just plain ignorant or irresponsible from occupying medical professionals who could and should meanwhile be helping people who are in true danger.

Yes, but the people in danger don’t want the bills and don’t come in.
abfab5300 13
And that’s terrible.

Next time you see seltzer on sale, buy enough that your savings exceed $1000, so you’ll be ahead!

It's reading posts like this that make me appreciate being a norwegian, living in Norway. Some years ago, I was in a car accident, spent five weeks in a coma, and a half year in hospital after that, and didn't have to pay anything for it at all, because that's what our tax money is used for...

Which is why Norway is a strong contender for Happiest Nation on Earth. We’ve decide to focus our attention on going for the gold in obesity, carbon emissions, and firearm deaths. USA!USA!

But if you use tax money for healthcare... you won't be able to afford to rain down missiles on other countries!

Just curious but what is your overall effective tax rate on your paychecks?

Next time, lay on your stomach, force a fart, move on. Or don’t allow a next time. Either will work.

At my last then-without-insurance ER visit here in the US, the bill just from the ER doc himself (ie, a "sub-contractor") was $600. Another time when without insurance, a regularly-scheduled by-referral MRI cost me $1000 out-of-pocket. Sometimes the pain is too great to wait until regular business hours for a Walk-In clinic - esp. when your parents have already died from heart attacks.

You went to the ER because you were burping and farting? YDI.
