Today, I re-dislocated my arm trying to get it out of the cast it was in because I didn't want to pay the $50 dollar fee to get it taken off. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I fell down the stairs and broke my arm. I went into hospital to get it put in a cast, but still went into school afterwards. I got written up for truancy because I didn't have a doctor's note. The cast was still on my arm. FML
Back to square one
Today, I finally got the cast off my leg after being unable to walk for 6 weeks, watching daytime TV or playing my husband's Xbox all day. The second the plaster came off, I tried to stand up, tripped over the doctor's foot and broke the apparently still not fully healed leg again in the same spot. FML
Cruel Summer
Today, I went to the hospital to get a cast that I have been wearing for the past three months removed from my wrist. Thanks to said cast, I couldn't have any summer fun at all. The doctor took a final X-ray and said, "Well look at that, your wrist wasn't fractured to begin with." FML
Get some rest
Today, I dislocated my shoulder doing a really big stretch when I woke up. After the doctor relocated it, my dad told me I still had to do my chores. No excuses. FML
Today, my doctor called and asked me when I could have my broken hand x-rayed again. I said the ER staff had told me it was a bad sprain over two weeks ago. I'm now in a full cast, and have to have my partially healed bones re-broken. There goes my summer. FML
Fake it til you make it
Today, I sprained an arm muscle while pretending to lift weights. FML
Breaking the law (and bones)
Today, I came out from the E.R. with an arm cast and stitches on my head, all because a cyclist ran me over on a pedestrian walkway and got away. FML
Doofus
Today, I was laying on the couch with a cast on my broken ankle. My brother thought it would be funny to shoot my cast with a high-powered pellet gun. It went straight through the cast and now I need to go back to the hospital. FML
Today, a nurse berated me for not being able to lift my leg myself so she could put a cast on. My leg is broken in two places. FML
Today, I had to cut short my New Year's resolution of going to the gym daily, when the meathead next to me dropped some heavy weights, which bounced and landed on my foot. I'm sitting at home in a cast. FML

We get too many people like you in our hospital. Really, I feel for you. Some of the simplest, easiest, and cheapest procedures cost insane amounts. There isn't a lot to taking off a cast, and it should come free. There's also no reason I should be paid as much as I am making. A lot of people think health is complicated - it's not. I could compare it to learning a new language.

It takes more time to situate and clear a patient's insurance coverage, or lack of it, when they come to our hospital. People think that because more people will need treatment it's going to completely overflow our hospitals. It's not - we have zero problem bringing patients in and out of the hospital once they are healthy. Realistically, a check-up or exam will take half an hour. If it's life-threatening, you're given care right away. If it's not, you can stand waiting 20 - 30 minutes.

This is why I love being in the military. it wouldn't cost me a dime to get a cast put on OR replaced on myself or my wife and kid.

tarynkd, We pay twice as much for health care as any other country and we don't have the best outcomes. We clearly have the most underperforming system in the world. Whether we do it with a universal, single-payer system, co-ops, public options or even strong, patient-friendly regulation of the private system, we need to do a major overhaul of the system. I don't see how anyone with a capitalist mindset can accept paying so much for such mediocre results. Free market mechanisms are simply not working to make our health care system efficient.
