Today, I'm planning my big sister's wedding. My long-term, live-in boyfriend walked by and saw me looking at the wedding tab on Pinterest, smirked, and said, "Don't get your hopes up." I had. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Copycat
Today, I found out that my fiancé's sister, who only got engaged a couple of months ago, is getting married before us. I wouldn't have a problem with this if she wasn't planning her wedding to be exactly like ours will be. FML
Today, my sister asked me if I was going to be getting married "for real" this time, because she didn't want to waste her money like she did on my previous engagement. The reason that one didn't work out in the first place is because she slept with my fiancé. FML
Congratulations, you played yourself!
Today, I was at a family gathering when my aunt asked me if I was seeing anyone special. In a tired and sarcastic tone, I jokingly said, “I’m actually getting married next month!” The room went silent, then some of them cheered. I had to explain I was kidding, but now they’re looking forward to a wedding I didn’t agree to. FML
Today, I found my sister's wedding book. Inside it was a list of potential grooms; she'd written down all of my ex-boyfriends. And my fiancé. We're getting married in three weeks. FML
Scheming
Today, I was supposed to get married. Instead, my sister made up a story about me cheating on my fiancé at the bachelorette party. He bought it and dumped me, despite there being no evidence of this. Turns out it was all a plan because they were secretly seeing each other for months. FML
Eavesdropping ain't a good idea
Today, I overheard my boyfriend's future sister-in-law ask him not to bring me to the wedding. Apparently, me being so much shorter than everyone else is "embarrassing" and "would make the pictures look weird." FML
Banished
Today, my older sister told me about their table plan at their wedding. She is one of my best friends too, so I was shocked that I had been placed far away, and separated from my husband. FML
Chopped
Today, my girlfriend caught the bouquet at her sister's wedding. I took it as a sign so after we got home, I proposed. She laughed and said no way. I'm done. FML
Today, my sister called me and asked if my boyfriend of 3 years had proposed to me yet. And now the surprise is ruined. FML
Acceptance
Today, I overheard my soon to be step-daughter telling her friend on the phone that she hopes that mine and her father's wedding is just a big joke, and that he isn't really going to go through with it. I just dropped five grand on a dress and venue. She's in for a surprise. FML

He probably doesn't even deserve you OP. I bet that wedding, will be beautiful, too!!

Weddings stir up emotions, and it's likely your boyfriend will witness the special moment and want it for himself too. Keep positive, it'll come eventually. Unless there's a dramatic plot twist, and your sister/her fiancé dramatically leaves like in a soap opera.

OP, i think your boy friend is taking you for granted. I can't really judge from an fml but he sounds like an ass. So I don't know, if you want to marry a dude like that

He's a keeper..

If she's hoping to marry him in the future... then obviously not...

*cough * it's called sarcasm..

You need a party and a piece of paper to validate your love for each other?
gracehi 33
It's more than just a "piece of paper." If it was, homosexuals wouldn't care that they can't legally be married in most parts of the US. Is a record deal "a peice of paper?" No. It's a legally binding contract that provides legal security and guarantees both parties certain rights. The same is true of marriage. If OP's boyfriend doesn't want to marry his girlfriend, it's likely because he doesn't want to be legally responsible to her. At the moment, he could walk out on her at any time for any reason, or be unfaithful to her, and her rights and his obligations to her would be a lot more limited than if they were married, unless "common law" marriage applies here. It's also more than "a party." It's a public declaration of commitment that comes with certain social obligations.

If she wants it so bad, what's stopping her from asking him?
gracehi 33
Given what he's said to her, she likely thinks he'd refuse.

The idea that guys have to take the first step, proclamed loudly by our society?

29- To some women, it's really important that their boyfriend is the one to propose. Plus, he pretty much said that he's not marrying her, at this moment at least.

Comparing marriage to a record deal makes it sound even worse imo
kwyk 23
Haha, I can imagine plenty of guys saying that as a joke, regardless of how much truth there is in it. He may be planning to surprise you for all you know...
kwyk 23
I can even imagine myself saying it... granted, I'd probably wink or laugh as I said it.

Thank you! Someone who speaks the truth and is able to make a joke about it. It's easy to say that OP's boyfriend is an ass or to "leave him", but there are two sides to every story and we're not there to read body language or tone of voice. Some commenters lack a sense of humor and automatically assume the worst. They're also just bitter their FML was denied Learn to take a joke, people!

"That's out of place, but nice to know." Then dump his sorry ass. He may not be ready for marriage but that is not the way to show it.
Ryan8878 21
Oh, how easy it is to manufacture rage over a comment OPs boyfriend said in passing.
cocacola999 27
Are you sure he meant it about weddings in general? It might have been something that looked really expensive, so it was just his way of telling you he won't be able to afford it? Or it might have been a joke. Anyway, no reason to dump someone you love over one little comment.
WaywardDaughter 26
That's what I was thinking. If OP was looking at something really pricey and/or something that her bf thought was ridiculous then his comment could have been referring to that.
user_2394 7
everyone is saying get rid of him but maybe he meant hes just not ready to get married yet? don't worry OP your time wilk come :)
Faff 20
Or maybe he just don't want to marry at all. Why is everybody assuming that marriage HAS to happen at one point in your life?
Kimmy___888 8
That's your own fault OP, why the **** would you get your hopes up over planning SOMEONE ELSE'S wedding. That has no bearing on your romantic life.

You can't force a wedding - not with a happy ending! It takes time...
