Today, my boss was fired by the board. A few days ago, he dropped several strong hints that he was going to promote me soon. FML
Today, my boss made up a rumor that I was quitting my job so I wouldn't get the promotion that was coming up. There goes that raise I've been wanting for six months. FML
Today, my boss found out I had applied for a much better paying job. He told me I'd do a better job and make more money there. Then he fired me. FML
Today, I called in sick to work for a second day. After months of my boss trying to get me sacked by spreading vicious rumors about me, taunting me into retaliating, and generally making my life a living hell, he finally got his chance. He sent me a text saying, "yeh dont bother son ure fuckin fired." FML
Today, my boss came into the office asked how I was doing and seemed totally normal and happy, then said, "I have to let you go. I heard some bad things about you." He wouldn't tell me what he heard, or from whom. FML
Today, I found out my job is trying to get me to quit. FML
Today, my boss called me into his office. After yelling and firing me, his assistant comes in telling him he had mistaken me for someone else. He did not give me my job back, as he claimed it would make an awkward work environment. FML
Today, I got fired from my job because my boss thinks that me doing everything he says makes me untrustworthy. FML
Today, I found out that when my boss said she was considering bumping me up to full time, she actually meant she was planning on letting me go. Everyone in the office except me knew. FML
Today, my boss made sure to do one last thing before he retired. Fire me. FML

That's what they do. If they fired you they would have to pay a severance package and you would be entitled to unemployment but if you quit, they don't have to offer you anything. Sounds like it is time to polish up the resume.

There is something called "constructive dismissal" in the UK, it's basically where an employer gets you to quit by changing your job/ treat you like crap. There are certain restrictions, ie you need to be employed by them for 2 years, but if you meet the criteria then you need to keep notes/get pictures/ get things in writing then you can quit and sue.

Keep a journal. Get a lawyer. And look for a new job ASAP. They do something similar in Japan. It's how companies save money avoiding paying pensions and severance packages.

Do not quit!! If you quit, you lose unemployment. And don't give them reason to fire you. They're trying to make you quit instead of firing you because it increases what they pay the state for unemployment insurance or something like that. Be the best employee you can, to spite your boss ;)

Smile and say yes sir/madam I will get right on it. Place on the bottom side of in basket and go back to whatever you were doing to amuse one's self. Let the boss explain why nothing was done.
