Today, my boss came into the office asked how I was doing and seemed totally normal and happy, then said, "I have to let you go. I heard some bad things about you." He wouldn't tell me what he heard, or from whom. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I got fired from my job. When I asked why, all that was said to me was, "We don't have to disclose that information, but you did nothing wrong. It's just not working out." FML
Today, I found out my boss likes to shit talk about me when I'm not around. The best part is that I don't know what I've done to piss him off. FML
America, fix your bathroom stalls
Today, my boss overheard me in a bathroom stall talking about how much I hate my job and couldn’t stand him. He didn’t say a word, I hadn't even heard him come in, I just noticed him staring silently at me through the crack in the stall, before leaving. FML
Red flags
Today, at work one of my co-worker was oddly nice to me; and my boss, who usually always says hi to me, didn't look or speak to me. Later that day I found out that I was going to be fired, not because my boss told me but because my picture was missing from the wall of employees. FML
The truth
Today, my boss called me into his office. He then fired me. Upset, I asked him, "Well, who's gonna replace me?" His answer was, "I don't know and don't care. Everyone who works here hates you. Now go away." FML
Today, my boss called me into his office. After yelling and firing me, his assistant comes in telling him he had mistaken me for someone else. He did not give me my job back, as he claimed it would make an awkward work environment. FML
Today, my boss found out I had applied for a much better paying job. He told me I'd do a better job and make more money there. Then he fired me. FML
Today, my boss was fired by the board. A few days ago, he dropped several strong hints that he was going to promote me soon. FML
The writing is on the wall
Today, I overheard the guy who hired me talking to one of my managers in hushed tones about me. I'm pretty sure he's going to send me an email soon, saying that my job "probably isn't the right fit" for me, which is part of what I overheard. FML
Today, I overheard my boss talking about me on the phone. Turns out he was drunk off his ass when he gave the go-ahead to hire me, and he's now searching for any excuse to legally fire me. FML

Don't workers need to be informed about what they're being fired for?

I had to hear it from the unemployment office as to the written documented reason my old boss let me go. Its an at will employment and they apparently don't need to tell you a reason now days

depends. some states, Georgia for example, is an at will state. you can be fires and they dont have to tell you anything, likewise, you can quit on the spot and dont have to say why.

Bring it up with HR or file for unemployment. Pretty sure businesses aren't legally allowed to fire you for rumors. That being said if it was a private business, he can. Good luck on figuring it out though, that really sucks.

If he didn't tell you why he fired you, it'd probably be pretty easy to file a wrongful termination lawsuit.

Well do ask him!! Don't you need a reason to be fired, legally? He has to give you the reason.... or sue sue sue ;)

It depends, in some states like Colorado, by law you don't have to give a reason.

Most states are at will employment states, you can be fired for any reason without cause as long as you are not being explicitly fired for race, religion, gender or age. And even then it's almost impossible to prove they fired you for any of those reasons.

Most every state is at will employment. You can be fired without any cause at all as long as it isn't explicitly discriminatory. And even then, someone can tell you, "I'm firing you because you are an old, black woman, and I do not like you." And unless they put it in writing or you have a plethora of witnesses or the employer has a history of firing people in your demographic, it's almost impossible to prove that they were discriminatory in court.
