Today, I injured my knee at a Zumba class, a class I joined to lose weight so my knees wouldn't hurt so much. Now I can't even go for a leisurely walk. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I injured my knee during dance class. When it started to feel a little bit better, I tried dancing again. I tripped, fell, and broke my wrist. FML
Today, as a male in his 40s, I went to "mixed" aerobics. I arrived late to find the entire female class had started intensely warming up. Within 5 minutes I pulled a calf muscle and left limping pathetically past a martial arts class. FML
Fix me up
Today, I realized thanks to two injuries I have that I can't do two routines my doctor wants me to do. I strained something in my right hip so squatting causes me pain. Jogging is also out of the question because my right foot healed wrong when I sprained it, and requires pricey foot surgery to fix. FML
Today, I sprained my ankle at dance class. No, I wasn't dancing when I did it. I was trying to step off from a small mat so I could go home. FML
Health is overrated
Today, trying to get into shape because I run out of breath after walking more than 30 minutes, I started to hit the gym. Too bad my legs didn’t want to cooperate and decided that it would cause limping-worthy pain for every step I took on the treadmill. FML
Fight yoga, try stress
Today, I went to a yoga class, thinking it would be good for my stiff calf from running. I pulled my back out doing the downward dog. Now can't get out of bed. FML
Today, in an effort to be more active, I jumped out of bed ready for a morning jog. Or, that was the plan. Instead, I twisted my knee so badly standing up, it's now locked, and I can't move it. So much for activity. FML
Today, I decided to start jogging and exercising, so I had a wonderful workout before work. Then I broke my foot at work. Goodbye exercising. FML
Today, I was in a Zumba class with a young woman in her 20s and an older woman in her 80s. I couldn't keep up with either one of them. FML
Today, I decided to turn my life around and start exercising more. I didn't even make it out the door before I tripped and fractured my ankle. FML

If you're really overweight, you should probably start off with something a little less strenuous than a full-on zumba class. And if your knees hurt, try something with less impact. Swimming, treadmill/elliptical, spinning (biking). And yoga. Yoga is amazing for developing strength and flexibility. Good luck to you!

Sounds like you were seriously overreaching with the Zumba classes. You should try aquacise. The buoyancy of the water will take a lot of the pressure off of your knees, it's practically zero impact and it's a very good workout.

A very common misunderstanding about spinning ! Spinning though burns a lot of calories it totally screws up your knees even more and increases the chances of a broken knee later on ! Other things I agree though ! :)

Yo there's a lot of twisting and turning in Zumba and that can be hard on your joints especially if they don't have the surrounding muscles built up to support those movements. Start with some basic calisthenics like squats and lunges using your body weight as resistance and then after a month or so of basic strengthening, you'd probably fare much better in Zumba and get more out of it.

You should only do Zumba to the level you can handle. Don't try to match the instructor or the experienced dancers exactly.

Good for you for starting on your way. Bad for you that you did something with such high impact when the impact from your regular daily activity was already hurting you. Don't get discouraged its a mistake many people make right off. Consult with a Dr. or a physical fitness trainer on a program for you. They can get you started off the right way and by the end you'll be doing Zumba with no problems. Good Luck

Here's hoping to a speedy recovery so you can get back to it! Good luck

Zumba is pretty intense, I think you should have started with a slower class like maybe a pilates/yoga mash up or even water aerobics.

I... listen, if your knees hurt, you really shouldn't do a class involving dancing/jumping! You should work on your eating habits, and when your knee gets better, walk and bike (after asking your doctor....)
