Today, I heard that there was supposed to be a huge blizzard heading our way, so I went out to stock up on groceries. After spending $600 on food, I drove home and packed most of it into the fridge and freezer just in time for our power to go out. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Snow Day
Today, my power went out due to a huge snow storm. I was in desperate need of candles and flashlights. I had to walk to the store since the roads were closed. I walked 4 miles in the blizzard. When I got home, the power came back on. FML
Today, I bought $250 worth of groceries and was feeling rather good about myself because it's the first time I've been able to do so in months. When I returned home I found my fridge/freezer broken. Most of the food I bought was dairy or frozen. FML
Today, I made my brother go to the grocery store to get some frozen pizzas. Ten minutes after he left, the power cut out. Still no power. Still hungry. FML
Survivalist
Today, during a storm-related power failure, I jerry-rigged an inverter from my car to supply the essentials. In doing so, I managed to blow up the fridge, smoke and all. The power came back on 5 minutes later. FML
Today, while working at a grocery store, I spent about 30 minutes pushing carts inside in a blizzard. Not even 10 minutes after I had finished, I looked out the window and saw that not only had the snow completely stopped, but the sun was shining. FML
Alone
Today, I was really excited to go to a party because I need to make more friends. Too bad a snowstorm hit right before I was going to leave, now I'm alone with no power. FML
It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Like Shit)
Today, the massive snowstorm that has been mercilessly attacking my city for the past week started causing random, brief blackouts every 2-5 minutes. I'm very sick, so the last thing I need is for this house to be cold. FML
Eight hour window
Today, I got home an hour late from to find that my roommate had left the fridge open for the entire 8 hours. The kicker is that I was an hour late because I was at the grocery store, not buying the things that were getting ruined because I thought we had some. FML
Cook out
Today, to save money, I bought some meat in bulk. When I got home, I was told that power to the neighborhood was out, and probably would be for days. Rather than let the meat rot, I barbecued it all and gave it away to my neighbors. The power came on while everyone was eating. FML
Today, I had a huge yard sale. Since I live in a good neighborhood, I decided to leave the stuff out tonight rather than pack it all in for only a few hours. The news didn't say anything about the impending severe thunderstorm. FML

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you supposed to buy food that can be stored and doesn't perish at room temperature when a storm heads your way?

if it's cold enough to snow, put all the stuff outside

No doubt.

If you lost power during a blizzard your home will likely stay cold enough for the food to keep, especially if you keep space heaters and the like away from your refrigerator. If worse comes to worse, pack it all in a cooler or similarly secure vessel, tack a flag or line on top so you can find it, and stick your food out in the snow or in your garage. That said, you're pretty foolish to stock up on food that spoils easily during an emergency. You need items that keep well but you can still eat without cooking if you are unable to operate a stove or other appliances. Remember that for next time.

Exactly. Haha. Just dont know about putting the food outside though. Even during heavy snow, I've seen pests scrounging about.

That's why you're meant to buy tins of food and dried goods!

Ydi. Storm and blizzard usually means "no electricity", DUH. Buy canned food instead.

Put the stuff outside, it should stay fresh. In the future, when a bad storm is coming, it often means you may go for days without power. Next time, buy non-perishable items. Your best bets are canned goods, bread & peanut butter, dry cereal, granola bars, and chips.

Our family's power went out one winter and we just packed a few coolers with snow from our backyard, put our food in them, and kept it all out there until power was restored a few days later. Everything stayed fresh.

Buy canned food next time, also keep the freezer and fridge closed. If you don't open it, it should stay cool for a long time, it's isolated.

spending that much money for a blizzard and not having the foresight to think most if not all the food should be non perishable..YDI
