Today, I had to proof-read a terrible paper containing a bunch of mistakes. It took me 4 hours and I didn't eat dinner until I was done. His response when he got it back was, "What the fuck did you do to my paper?! You bitch!" FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Slipping up
Today, I got an email from my professor with my grade for a paper. It said, "Solid writing, but you should have proofread your final draft more carefully." In a moment of annoyance, I typed in the reply box, "God should have proofread your FACE more carefully." My elbow hit the send button. FML
Smart
Today, my boss chewed me out for correcting several spelling and grammar mistakes in one of his reports. The words "Think you're so damn smart, don't ya?" were uttered. I'm his secretary, and proofreading his shit is part of my job. FML
FIXED
Today, I pulled an all-nighter to finish an essay. I submitted it one minute before the deadline. Later, I opened the file to double-check and realized I'd uploaded my rough draft, containing notes like “THIS PART MAKES NO SENSE, FIX LATER.” The professor then replied, “I agree with your assessments.” FML
Today, my professor handed me back a paper I spent hours hours working on. At the bottom in red it said "D" followed by, "That was a gift." FML
Genius
Today, I had to proofread a document my boss had written. When I pointed out that he spelled "college" as "collage" multiple times, he angrily accused me of trying to make him look stupid. This is the guy who constantly boasts about his "genius" IQ level to the whole office. FML
Today, I had my teacher look over my essay before turning it in. He said it was extremely well-written, so I handed it in. When I got it back, the feedback he left said it was one of the worst essays he'd ever read. FML
Words which could only be your own
Today, after I'd being sick all day, my boyfriend volunteered to do my very long sociology paper. I was later notified by my professor that the paper I'd submitted was completely plagiarized. FML
Don't hold back
Today, a friend of mine asked me to proofread her essay. "Don't hold back," she said. I took a look at it. It looked like it was written by a third grader, and she's in college. After spending a huge amount of time marking all of her mistakes, I gave it back. She got upset at me for being "extremely critical." FML
Today, my boss asked me to read through a document. I gave my feedback, saying it seemed like it had been written by an 8-year-old. Turns out it was in fact written by him. FML
Today, I turned in an essay after staying up late to work on it. I was away when the teacher assigned it, so I'd asked my friend what the subject was. It transpires that she'd given me the wrong one, all because she was mad at me for not returning her pencil. FML

"I took all of the stupid out of it! " Too bad you can't do that with people. Sorry, OP, FYL!

He's just pissed off that you could improve on his work that he thought was perfect.

If he asked you to proof read for quality, then FYL. But if you were asked to proofread spelling and basic syntax errors, then YDI, he didn't ask you to rewrite or ameliorate it, just check it.

Presumably the person in question is a student and wants to get a good grade. Proofreading a student's paper means to provide corrections to spelling, grammar and punctuation as well as suggesting improvements to style, prose, flow, etc. A student will be graded on ALL of that and they're asking you to help them improve their grade so they have absolutely no right to complain if those suggestions are completely valid. Speaking from personal experience with papers like that, I'm fairly certain they were almost all grammar, spelling, and punctuation corrections. I can't even begin to look at help improving someone's content until they've sorted out all of that first. It's just too distracting. If I were buying a house, I'd expect it to be clean. If you want me to buy your house, I expect there to be no garbage in sight. The same is true for editing remarks: pick up all the litter in your writing first. Afterwards we'll discuss how well you're selling your ideas to your reader.

Well hopefully this raised a bunch of red flags, and you can help the kid do better next time.

@OP: Don't spend more than one hour on ANY paper, but sign off: Too Many Additional Errors to Correct - but not before you correct at least one example of each type of error so that the author knows what's wrong and how to fix it. You could also high-light each un-corrected error and/or write down the total count for each type/ example of error so that the author knows how many exist overall. Good luck! :-)

I'm actually speechless... There aren't even words invented to explain how idiotic this person is

So much disrespect when you are only trying to help. I would have got up and left and took my revisions. Besides he can print a new one.

Not sure why you're complaining OP, I presume proof reading papers is your job and not having your dinner on time I'm sure didn't kill you.

How can you trust the editing of someone who doesn't know how to insert the antecedent of a pronoun? Who is "he?" Your boyfriend, your roommate, your husband, your brother, your dad? I'm curious how many OMGs and LOLs you inserted into "his" paper.
