Today, I found out that the new receptionist earns more than I do. I'm an undergraduate accountant and I've been working there for 2 years. Oh and I started out as the receptionist before I got a "promotion". FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Like spinning plates
Today, I became the senior receptionist at my job, which is supposed to have three receptionists. The others all had life changes, so they're moving on, which is fair, but now I have to train new people. I've been here three weeks. FML
Seize the means
Today, the person recently hired to work in my spot during my days off started at a higher hourly rate than me, after I have been here for nearly three years. I asked for a raise and got a dollar more; meanwhile, my regional counterparts make 4 dollars more per hour. FML
Stay in school, kids
Today, my sister and I were talking about our salaries. She just graduated from university and will start working soon. It turns out that she'll earn more money than me. I have been working for 4 years. However, my earnings are still less than those of a worker with no experience. FML
Today, I found out that, because I'm a student, the employees I train make more than me. FML
Today, I found out that my friend makes more money than I do. She's a high school dropout and working at a retail job at the mall. I went to college for four years to get my job. FML
Today, after 4 years of college to get a BA in Marketing and 2 years to get an MBA, I landed a great job as a receptionist. My boss likes to fist bump when I buzz him through the security door correctly. FML
Today, I found out that my company is paying more for hors d'oeuvres at one party than I will receive for my entire year long internship. FML
Today, I was forced into accepting a "promotion" for a position that pays less than what I get right now. FML
Today, I got a new title at work. My boss hyped it up and made it sound amazing, so I accepted. Come to find out it pays 20k less a year and is twice as much work. FML
Promotion, huh?
Today, I was promoted. After going to school for 10 months to get certified for the new position, training extensively, and taking on a ton more responsibility, I was hoping for a decent raise. How much do my bosses think all of that time and effort is worth? One dollar more per hour than I made before. FML

The new receptionist obviously has better qualifications, and by "better qualifications," I mean "bigger ****." Don't think of a boob job as cosmetic surgery, think of it as an investment in your future.

If you get no benefits as the receptionist, but you get benefits as an accountant, you have to balance those as well. If you have full benefits in an accountant position, expect to make a little less. Especially since receptionists I know don't get benefits, so they get a bit of a salary buff to pay for their own health insurance and what nots.

"Undergraduate accountant." Translation: not an accountant, but in school to be one. Not impressive.

Exactly. "Undergraduate accountant" means undergraduate accounting major. The receptionist probably has a degree already, or years of work experience, which would be why you make less. And if you're an undergraduate, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you're doing Work-Study for your school. Those positions almost always pay min. wage.

mercy, ESPECIALLY if the OP is a man! The folks who like chicks with dicks preferr big-titted chicks with dicks over itty-bitty titty chicks with dicks. Or so I've heard.

No. OP may have started out on a lower salary for a reason. If the new receptionist was wanted at another job also the employer might have raised their salary. Therefore, even with OP's promotion, the new receptionists starting salary could be higher

A woman shouldn't have to be cosmetically altered to earn what she is worth. That is the problem with today's society, always attaching worth with looks.

Then in a professional manner discuss being given a big raise.

(Sorry if it's a repeat. This first version appears to have been eaten.) Y'know, in countries like Australia that speak a more British English, they call a pay increase a "rise." I'm sure your boss will be happy about discussing the giving of a big rise. The first point of negotiation will be who will do the giving. *fade in bad **** jazz*

An undergraduate accountant? As in you haven't graduated yet? Well that sounds like a long internship to me and it isn't uncommon for someone in that position to get paid less than someone who is working full time and isn't in school. As others have said, you can politely ask for a raise and hope they aren't just using you for cheap labor and that they actually think you do a good job.

How did you miss The PUNisher?
