Today, I bought my girlfriend a very expensive necklace. I gave it to her thinking she'd be extremely happy. Instead she was mad at me because my gift for our anniversary was better than hers. FML
Thanks, I guess…

All you people saying at least you got a present obviously don't understand women. We don't want something that you gave your ex, we want something that you picked out for us, even if it's cheap, if you picked it out just for us it makes it extremely special and meaningful. Giving a woman something you gave your ex is basically saying we aren't special to you. FYL OP. You need to have a talk with him.

So you're mad at him for recycling?

thats weird, today your boyfriend found out that his girlfriend is insane. Objects like this do not retain subtext or cooties. Its a necklace, it was given to you out of love and you should take it like that. If not I hope the next ring you get is a black one, around your eye.

it has nothing to do with the worth of the necklace or the fact that it might hold cooties but the fact that he bought it for someone else. If i was in that situation i would probably thank him for it but i would never wear it because I would feel uncomfortable. I couldnt even explain why it would make me uncomfortable. Would you wear something that was originally intended for an ex?? I wouldnt expect my bf to. Hell i wouldn't even give a new puppy my old dogs collar.

yes I'm currently playing an xbox360 that belonged to my ex's boyfriend. I even used a vibrator on an ex once that was bought by another boyfriend.

You picked him, stupid.

This is just further proof that all girls are emotional, irrational train wrecks. You might as well dump him for having an ex in the first place.

Seriously, how can you people say she's stupid for being upset about this? The fact that he regifted something like that shows that he is too ******* lazy to actually pick something out that is for HER instead of his ex!

So the only way he can show his love is to spend more money. He bought the gift because he thought someone he loved deserved it. Now he thinks someone else deserves it for different reasons. Grow up, ****.

Actually it's only cheap, lazy people who'd do that. He must be very unthoughtful. The fact that he has the necklace he gave his ex says a lot. A gift mustn't be "earned", that's why they call it a gift. Once you gave it to someone, a person with integrity leaves it to that someone whether or not they may start thinking they didn't "deserve" it. If I were the OP, I'd rather my bf told me he was out of money and just spent my birthday with me, than giving me a recycled gift. FYL OP.

It never said that the boyfriend took it back. The immature girl probably gave it back.

My ex did the same thing. Except he actually mock proposed to me and claimed to already have a ring. Asked around and it turns out he bought it for his ex. Guess who dumped that idiot? :)

ouch. that totally blows. HOWEVER, it is a gift. i would be upset, too, if my boyfriend gave me something that he had already given to his ex. but we've been together for almost three years, and he only just recently bought me jewelry. it might have taken him longer to want to actually purchase you something, because sometimes that's a big step to guys. meanwhile he had this necklace that wasn't getting any use and just gave it to you so you could have it. it doesn't mean he was trying to insult you. i found my ex's cologne and my current boyfriend thought it smelled good so he kept it. he didn't see the problem at all. men think totally different than women. keep it, give it back. whatever. that sucks, and i'm sure it hurt, but honestly... worse things have happened.

I agree with BanneLOVE (183). Just because he gave you something that belonged to his ex doesn't mean he doesn't value you. Sure it might hurt, but he could be cheating on you with someone? Have murdered your family in their sleep? Or ****** a turtle and made you watch? Get over it. Just give it back.

how is this bad? anyone? he gives someone he loves a gift, she dumps him and throws the necklace at him becaus she hates him, he keeps it as a memory of how much he loved someone, and is now giving a gift to you, he's moving on, giving you the gift that pretty much has all his love in it. it's better he gives it to you rathe than keep it in his desk or something letting it remind him of his old girlfriend. don't think of the past, you're the here and now.

I wouldn't care if i got something like that on just any other day as a random present and probably would do the same if i had a gift left over from a previous relationship that i never gave to an ex. When it comes to a Birthday it's different. That day is suppose to be an important day in a person's life and to celebrate that day, S.O should show that he had her on his mind when he got the gift. Whether that gift be a handmade card, or an expensive necklace. The people who are telling the OP to, "stop being ungrateful" about it are very materialistic. All they see is an expensive gift and do not care where it came from and if it has any meaning. A gift to an SO should hold sentimental value and that is only possible by putting thought into the gift rather than giving just about any leftover you can find in the house.

See, I would think that a 'random day' type of gift should be more heartfelt than a birthday gift. On birthdays you're supposed to get someone a gift. It's not really as special if the 'have to.' But a random day gift says "hey, I was thinking about you, and got you this even though there is not special day that says I should. I got it because I really want you to have it, instead of because that's what tradition dictates." I'm not telling her to be more grateful because the gift is expensive, but because he gave her a gift at all. It could have been anything. It's nice to get gifts on your birthday, and it's nice when people remember your birthday. I dunno, maybe I just have birthday issues.
