Today, I found out that the motorcycle I paid cash for was an illegal import. My plates are canceled, I have to turn in the bike for it to be destroyed, and the seller has vanished off the face of the planet. FML

Today, I finally received the bicycle I ordered months ago. It was an expensive custom-made bike which perfectly fit my 6'9" frame. Today, that bike got stolen. FML
Today, I got a call from the dealership I was trying to work a deal with. After finishing the paperwork at the dealership, I tried to leave on my brand new Harley Davison. It wouldn’t start, so someone came back after hours to jump start my new bike, only to wipe out in the street there, wrecking my new bike. FML
Today, I decided I'd sell an old motorcycle I had, in order to help with the bills. I had to be at work at the time when an interested buyer was to show up, so I entrusted my mother with the exchange as she's unemployed. Mom pocketed the money and bought a new freezer for her house, and won't pay me back. FML
Today, my motorcycle was stolen. If that wasn't bad enough, the thief drove past me. Twice. FML
Today, I bought a car. Made a down payment and everything. Have the papers saying it’s mine, only to find out a few hours later it was sold right before I bought it. FML
Today, after having worked two jobs for months to save up for a big vacation, I came home to find my hard-earned money replaced by my boyfriend's brand new motorcycle. FML
Today, I took my motorbike out for the first time ever, after having waited for five weeks for it to be returned from the mechanics. Three hours later and I crashed after getting caught in the rain and hitting an oil patch on the road. Looks like I won't be riding until it's fixed. Again. FML
Today, my car was stolen. From my driveway. By the guy who sold it to me. FML
Today, I was at Goodwill and I saw my bike, which was stolen from me a couple of weeks ago. It was a gift that my mom gave me for my birthday. The bike was being sold for 65 dollars. I had to buy it. FML
Today, I had my girlfriend drive me to go buy a motorcycle. I rode it 50 minutes home, got in the drive way, put the kick stand down, and then lost my balance and fell on the other side. I paid $3000 to drop it in the first hour and break the turn signal off. FML

Well it was OP's fault for not checking these things out so I don't think he needs reimbursed. Don't see the point in destroying a perfectly fine working bike though, that's just wasteful. Can't they resell it with proceeds going to police or charity or something? Or is it not suitable to use on US roads then?

it's probably because they want to make sure they are never driven. it's stupid though. like if you illegally imported the Skyline GT-R from Japan. I wish it was easier to buy those..

They're not street legal and never will be without extensive, expensive mods that nobody would pay for. Might as well just buy a different bike with that money.

Even if it's just the importing of the bike that's illegal I'd imagine they'd still destroy it. The cops aren't known for peaceful/non-violent measures, after all.

30, the law for cars (and I imagine bikes as well) is 25 years or a bunch if the same model have to be subjected to crash tests, effectively destroying them, at the owners expense. Otherwise the government takes the car and destroys it.
