Today, I found out that the electricity company can just show up unannounced and cut off my power, but cannot find the meter for a whole 10 days to switch it on again. It's currently dark and 7°C in my bedroom. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Is that even legal?
Today, I had a really good day out just to come home right before the electricity company closed for the day, to find out my payment hadn’t gone through and they'd turned it off. FML
Today, I found out the electric bill I have been paying was on my old house. I found this out when they shut off the power to my house. FML
Today, I woke up to find my power was out. After taking a shower in the dark and being unable to make myself lunch, my power came on two minutes before I had to leave for school. FML
Energy crisis
Today, my country announced that there will be 10 hours of power cuts starting from tomorrow. This basically means that if I want to begin my day at 8:00 am, it will only really get started at 6:00 pm, once the sun is down and the birds are done chirping. FML
It's a mystery
Today, our water got cut off. Since our council tax is also due today, I called them and hurled abuse for cutting off the water so soon. Turns out they don’t actually supply water, nor was it even disconnected. Some random person just turned off the meter tap. FML
Oddly specific insomnia
Today, the power went out. Thankfully, it was early in the morning so I should've been able to sleep through it. Then I realized I have an impossible time sleeping during power outages. FML
It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Like Shit)
Today, the massive snowstorm that has been mercilessly attacking my city for the past week started causing random, brief blackouts every 2-5 minutes. I'm very sick, so the last thing I need is for this house to be cold. FML
Today, the power in my village went out. This caused the back-up battery powered alarm to go off. Nobody in the house even knew our alarm worked, let alone how to make it stop. It's been going off for over an hour now. FML
Outage
Today, there was a power outage at my apartment. I ended up deciding that the power wasn't going to come on any time soon, and that I should go to a hotel for the night. Just after I unpacked at the hotel, my neighbor called to say the power had come back. FML
Today, I finished working a 70 hour work week. I'm a lineman for the electric company, and worked extended hours all week getting people's lights back on after a wind storm. When I got home, my power was out. FML

Not sure where you live but in most places where people have the free time to post an FML, their power meters are remotely controlled. The power company can turn it off and on from a computer somewhere and don't have to actually come out to your actual meter and actually move an actual switch. If not, you can tell them you've got meds in the refrigerator so can they please turn the power on so you don't die.

I effin hate the electric company!!! It's easy to turn off power but harder to turn it back on, what kind of bullshit is that?!? Ugh, I feel your pain and I hope your power gets turned back on soon.

I'm assuming it's different in other places but where I live they usually give you a decent amount of time before turning off your power after missing a payment. They even send a disconnection notice prior to doing so.

That's 44 degrees Fahrenheit which is sufficient refrigeration for almost every medication, including insulin. The bigger concern would be OP coming down with hypothermia while asleep. Because you don't wake up if you become hypothermic while asleep.

The electric companies send a disconnect notice before they shutoff the power!

Not if they shut off the power to the wrong house.

Don't you know where your own meter is? Can't you show them? Why would it take ten days of searching for it?

Oh, they can find it -- they just don't want to find it so quick. Knowing this nudges you to actually pay your bill.

haha I was thinking the same thing.

IF they shut it off generally they send someone out to turn it back on. After the disconnect notice goes out they can shut it off whenever. You have to pay off the whole of what was passed due to turn it back on.

There's a lesson to be learned here. PAY YOUR BILLS. Then they will have no rain to cut your power. I bet you keep your cell phone bill paid.

You should check and see if they are controlled by a public service commission. Usually (once you pay your bill), they are required to reconnect within 24hrs.
