Today, as I was about to leave home for my first sweet taste of freedom at my new apartment, my car died. I'm stuck here for at least the weekend and can look forward to my mom driving me to work. Freedom. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
All road, no destination
Today, after ten months of carpooling or borrowing my mom's car to get to work, and saving money, I finally have a brand new car. However, I have nowhere to go, besides work, and everyone I know is busy or lives out of state. FML
It's all too much
Today, my car crapped out in the middle of the road, after over a year of only being able to find short contract jobs, all while juggling the grief of the back to back deaths of my mother and grandfather. FML
Bad time for insurance denials
Today, my car broke down dead in the middle of the highway. As I was unable to get it out of the road, it was impounded, and my insurance won't help. Now I'm further in debt and struggling to get to work. FML
Today, I found out I will be without a car for two weeks because my mother volunteered to let my grandparents use mine while theirs is being repaired. They've been in 4 accidents over the last year. FML
Long haul
Today, I was driving to visit my parents for the first time in two years. After spending about $4000 to make sure my car wouldn't break down on the journey, around the halfway point, the front tire popped and the engine blew out. I'm about 5 states away from both my parents and my home. FML
Today, while on my way to work, I had a tire blowout. I got the car towed and borrowed my mom’s so that I could still get to work. Her car seized and died on the expressway ramp. It’s not in any tow truck’s jurisdiction. FML
Today, I was finally able to drive my brother's nice car instead of my clunker, because he left for college. First thing I do? Back into the neighbors' mailbox while exiting the driveway. FML
Today, due to bad weather, my dad let me take his car to drive to my apartment 3 hours away. I only realized when I got there that my keys were still sitting on my parents' kitchen counter. FML
See ya!
Today, my family was leaving for a weekend trip and was supposed to pick me up on the way down. About an hour before they are supposed to arrive, my mom calls to tell me that there's no room left in the car, so they won't be stopping to get me. FML
Thanks a lot!
Today, my girlfriend's dad let me borrow his car for transportation to work because mine got totaled. This car is a complete dump and I've realized he's only letting me use it so it's my fault to fix the broken things on the car. So far, I've had to replace the battery and two popped tires. FML

Freedom is pretty nice, but remember to cherish the memories and time you spend with your family. Unless they're crazy, then you should run and run fast.

I don't know why people are down voting you number 1. The guy is very lucky to have people in his life willing to help him.

I used to have to rely on my family to get me to work, when I said I finished at 9 on a Friday night someone would come after half an hour. When j finished on Sunday at 7pm they'd come at 8. I'd walk the hour home but my shoes were so uncomfortable I couldn't bear to stand anymore. I'm just glad I can drive now, and we have a spare car for when one of our cars breaks, but not everyone has that luxury.

At least it was your car that died and not your cat. Try biking if it's not too far. It's cheaper transportation and it's free health benefits!

Winter is a thing. And it's approaching quickly. Especially in Massachusetts, where OP is.

"Winter is coming".

Why should winter be a problem? I live in Finland and I bike to work every day, winter or summer. You just have to prepare better amd have winter tyres for the bike.

And gloves. Biking in chill air makes makes your fingers fall off... well that's what it feels like anyway.

I cannot bike :( Never tried it. Perhaps the OP never did as well.

I don't know about in Finland 24 but here in Alaska, sometimes the roads don't get cleared of snow and ice until later in the day and the sidewalks rarely do. it's not safe to bike to work in the winter. and who wants to at -20 anyway?

And then there is the problem of ice. With only two wheels, when you hit ice you are probably going down.

At least your mom is willing to help. And on the bright side you'll eventually get your freedom.

That sucks! Hopefully you can get your car fixed soon!

Cars can be fixed but you have independence in a new place.
