Today, I found my mother in tears, so I asked her what was wrong. She told me, "It's your father, he wants a divorce..." I asked if he'd met another woman, and my mom replied "No, not a woman..." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I came home to find my dad crying. Turns out my parents are getting divorced because my mom had an affair. With a teacher at my school. A female teacher. And the school isn't going to fire her because she's a good teacher. Every day at school I'm going to have to see her. FML
Today, I told my mother that, after years of cheating and abuse, I'm finally getting a divorce. Her reaction was deep concern that my husband might not want to "be friends" with the rest of the family any more. FML
Thanks for the heads up
Today, at his request, I met up with my brother for lunch so we could catch up. Apparently, our mother put him up to it so he could tell me our parents are getting a divorce. They didn't want to tell me themselves because I'm "too emotional." FML
Today, my daughter told me she wanted to divorce me. FML
Let 'em in
Today, it's been a little while since I found out that my parents are getting a divorce. They'd been married for 25 years and my father got bored and lost feelings. My mother is crying and howling on the bathroom floor right now. It has happened before, but since it was in our upstairs bathroom, I could open the door with a knife. FML
Love is blind
Today, my ex-wife confessed to me that she's in love with my father and broke down crying because he's never approved of her. FML
Breaking news
Today, I got a phone call from my mother asking me if I was okay. Confused, I asked her what she meant. She then told me that my boyfriend had broken up with me, and she just wanted to make sure I was handling it alright. I had to find out my relationship was over from my mom. FML
Thanks for the help
Today, while in line for my prescription, my daughter was interrogating the man behind us. I'm a single mother. She asked the man, "Do you think my mom is pretty? Want to go on a date with her?" When he told her he was married, she replied, "So? You can get a divorce." FML
Today, I found my dad drunk, sitting on the bathroom floor crying. When I asked him why, he said, "My son is gay." I'm his only child, and I'm a girl. FML
Today, my mom came home drunk and crying, so I tried to comfort her and asked what was wrong. She wasted no time admitting that she'd hooked up with her ex-husband, AKA my dad, but that it'd sucked for her because he has a tiny penis. Thanks, I really needed to know that. FML

I think I agree with #21. I'd be severely pissed if I found out my father was leaving my mum for a man. Discovering someone you love and respect is a cheater who is breaking up your family is a crushing blow. BTW, he didn't "have" to lie and cheat.

Nobody said he cheated. Finding someone else is not necessarily cheating. I mean you could find yourself falling in love with your best friend and it doesn't mean you have done anything with him yet. As for lying, a lot of people succumb to the pressures of society and their peers, especially at the time when they most likely got married when being gay was not as tolerated as it is today. Give him a break. I'm sure he didn't 'intend' for things to turn out this way.

he would punch his dad in the balls because his dad KNEW he was gay from the get go. **** ops dad....dont get me wrong... im all for gay marrige...but what Ops dad did was just plain wrong.

If my husband were to tell me he loved someone else, I would most definitely feel cheated regardless of where his penis had or hadn't been. I don't doubt that being a closeted gay man is a difficult life but that wasn't the point of my comment. All I was saying is if I were in OP's situation, I'd be really hurt and would probably lash out at my father. Illogical and unfair but there it is. Anyone else in the world and I could comfort and counsel but not my dad.

I agree with #53/90. Also, I feel like lying or not being honest about who you feel you are because of the "pressures of society" is in no way an acceptable excuse. Maybe some people aren't "strong enough" to handle "coming out of the closet" but if so they're fully responsible for the consequences of that. If OP's dad married and/or stayed with OP's mom knowing that he was gay, he definitely doesn't "deserve a break". His weakness/cowardliness (if he really had been hiding it) has profoundly hurt his own family, and cheating-no matter who it's with-shouldn't be condoned or accepted in any fashion because he's with someone that aligns better with his (newfound?) sexual orientation.
