Today, I dropped my phone in water, and my friends told me to put it in rice to draw out the water. They put my phone in riceroni. My phone now smells like chicken and has rice seasoning stuck all over it. Needless to say it still doesn't work. FML

Today, I dropped my phone in the wet snow. I read that putting it in rice helps to get the water out. Three pieces of rice are now frozen into the power port, and I can't get the charger in. FML
Today, I managed to wash my phone with my laundry. I didn’t realize it was in my jeans until I heard a thudding noise. After rescuing it from the depths of soggy clothes, I tried the rice trick to dry it out. A few hours later, my cat thought it was a new litter tray and promptly pissed in the rice, then spread it all over the counter. FML
Today, I was texting while making dinner. I went to pour the noodles into the boiling water and I dropped my phone in. Not thinking, I went to retrieve it from the water. I now have a completely useless phone and a useless hand. FML
Today, I put my phone in the dishwasher by accident. I'd left it on the kitchen counter with a bunch of dirty stuff and, distracted, loaded it in with the plates. I only realized it when the dishwasher started making weird noises. My phone was soaked and blinking with bubbles inside. It didn’t survive. FML
Today, after dropping my phone in the toilet, I left it dismantled outside in my backyard to dry hoping it could be saved. I forgot about the phone as well as the sprinklers that were scheduled to go off. FML
Today, I woke up to find my cat had knocked my phone into the toilet. As I fished it out, soaking wet, I thought, "Well, at least it's water-resistant." Turns out, my phone wasn't. FML
Today, I put my phone in the fridge to cool it down. Now it's cold, but it won't turn on. FML

Today, I dropped my phone in the frying pan whilst cooking my steak. I had to rinse off the oil immediately and clean the phone, then had to eat a cold steak. FML
Today, I learned the reason they say don't keep your phone in high humidity places. I left my phone on the counter when I went to take a shower. It now won't turn on due to water damage and the warranty doesn't cover it. FML

Hey. You got one of the new Ismell's. :-P Anyway, it's dry rice you have to use dumbass. And you have to leave it in there for a day or 2. Either that or A. be more careful or B. Get some phone insurance if it's something expensive.

I dropped my phone in the water 3 times, all you needed to do was take out the battery and blow dry it and leave it alone for a day. then just pop the battery back in the next day and it works again:)

lol I did it too with a bee we found in my dogs water bowl. we buried it In a pile of salt, gave up, then were smoking nearby the next day and it crawled out and flew away. crazy shit

the seasoning comes in a separate packet, which you aren't supposed to use until the rice is in water. did they put it in WET/cooked rice? because that defeats the entire point. and even if they knew this, why would they add the seasoning? your friends are idiots, get new ones.

The method of drying isn't that important. What's more important is that you completely disconnect a battery. So if it was an iPhone you're pretty much SOL. Water does not damage electronic components, with the exception of rust, as long as there is no power. The damage occurs when the water causes circuits to short, which requires power. Ironically water is actually one of the best cooling mechanisms for electronics when done correctly.
