Today, I am currently grounded for three weeks, have no car, cell phone, or television privileges, and am not allowed to spend more than 10 minutes on the computer a day. The reason why: I was seven minutes past my 9'oclock curfew. I'm 18. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was grounded for not agreeing with an article on dating my mom found in a very strict magazine. The article told parents to monitor phone calls, make rumors about their children cheating on people, and not allow their children anywhere but home. FML
Judge and jury
Today, I turned 18 and I’m now subject to adult discipline. My dad says I will no longer be grounded or have my phone taken away, but I have three strikes and if I get to three, he’s throwing me out to get my own house. He then gave me my first strike because I was 30 minutes late picking up my nana. FML
Today, I'm a 22 year-old guy with a 11:00 pm curfew. FML
Today, my dad learned how to use the parental controls. I now have an 11 o'clock curfew. I am 17. FML
You gotta be kidding me?
Today, my mom scolded me and threatened to ground me for coming home past midnight. Normally, it wouldn't be unreasonable, except for the fact that I'm 24 years-old, and that my parents live with me, in my own house. FML
Today, my mum took away my laptop and my phone and won't let me call, text, or go out with friends for one month. Why? I left the toilet seat up. I'm writing this from a public library. FML
Today, I was given a call home, a 3-day-suspension, and a week of detention in school for a "serious violation of the code of conduct." Said violation? Jogging in the middle of the hall. FML
Logic
Today, I was grounded by my mom because I had slept in past 11, when she wanted me to wake up at seven to do chores. According to her logic, I should have seen the note she left on the counter earlier this morning. FML
How very dare you?
Today, I told my mom about the couple of times that I'd skipped classes during high school. She got really mad and grounded me for a month. That would usually be normal except for the fact that I'm 27 and live in my own apartment. FML
Bad grandma
Today, I'm grounded for literally the whole summer because my parents found out that I was still seeing my grandma behind their backs, even though they banned her from ever seeing us again after she spanked my sister. FML

your curfew is better than mine by a long shot. when i was in high school i never even had a curfew...because the idea of going out was never a case, since they denied every letting me go out anytime i asked. now i'm 23 with a 5pm curfew. Basically means i'm not going out at all anyway...which is mainly the case since everyone goes out at night. and as for work? just graduated from 5 years of university and without a job. sure living away from home for school is great...(not sure how my parents managed to let me go away for school) but they were controlling even from a long distance - calling my room everyday, videocalling in the evening so they knew for sure i was safe in my room, and coming to "bring" me groceries biweekly (because this have this idea i'm going to die without their groceries...even though i do buy my own anyway). not only this, but now i'm graduated, my parents are not allowing me to make plans for my future...all my plans for graduation is now garbage, and i'm stuck at home wasting my life away...i see myself still here....at the age of 30, with no family of my own. this is probably the worst case scenario...which is how my situation is - you might feel like you got your freedom...and graduation comes along, thinking this is it, you've made it...but it all crumbles away.

I'm sorry, that's really horrible. But you need to stand up for yourself. If you let your parents control your life like that, then they aren't going to realize how much what they're doing is affecting you.

That is incredible and horrible. Even though your parents are awful, you are still in the same situation because you want it that way. :/ It might have helped if you had looked for a job while you were on college. Seriously, FYLife.

This made me really sad. Can you please stand up for yourself? You're legally an adult, so there's absolutely no reason for you to be their bitch.

wow that's awful. My mom was a pain (for reasons other than curfews) but as I slowly stood up to her, she started relenting and backing off. It took a while to get there due to our history, but it has mostly worked out in my favor, so I recommend starting to try being more assertive in your needs. I understand putting limits on high school kids and whatnot, but jeez...it's really excessive in your case. There's a past history of physical abuse. I wanted to go to school for medicine at first but she wouldn't pay for my application for that degree because she was assured I wouldn't make it through. So I graduated with a degree in business, but now I'm going back for medicine anyway on my own dime. It's hard for sure, and I'm kind of low on money since I'm working full time and going to school part time so I get no financial aid of any sorts, but it is doable.

it's not that i haven't tried standing up for myself, my mom's a total control freak who controls everyone including her own parents. i guess i didn't do that typical rebell-against-parents thing as a teenager, but i've come a long way to even get that curfew. it's a typical asian parents thing...and they say i'm a girl so that automatically means they have strict rules to "protect" me. and with asian moms, there is no such thing as talking to them about things, cuz they say we're disrespecting them for talking back, and going against them when they pay for everything...including my 50k schooling. *sigh* so i will be in debt to them for life, and listen to their everything single command.

also, whenever i do try to fight back, my mom becomes more aggressive and it becomes harder to stand up for myself next time, because she's like a broken record and keeps on bringing every single thing that's happened before up again.

Oh god. I feel your pain, I have a Nazi Asian Mom too. *hug* Attempting to rationalize gets us nowhere. Getting close to seeing it from their perspective will cause our brains to explode. :(

Move across the country. Seriously. That's really ******. If I were you, the freedom would be worth more to me than the familial relationship. Leave them forever and don't give them a phone number. They don't own you.
Lythiaren 8
You don't understand the severity of the psychological damage and conditioning that Nazi Asian Moms inflict upon their own children, do you? Especially girls, we're expected to be good little slaves for every little chore, but at the same time we had to be 'like everyone else' and be successful at everything we do. And if mom doesn't like it, we can't ever be successful at it because they will take every step possible to prevent it. And then they wil harass you endlessly and try to cram your past mistakes down your throat until you 'go back' to the way they want you to be. This includes trying to move out; they will take and tear up newspaper ads, open our mail, disrupt Internet, take phones and spy. Moving anywhere? They can and will find us. They build up vast social networks before they even have children.
