Today, at my work, I was ringing though a kid's purchase. I try to be friendly with the kids and when he handed me his cash I said "Thank you, sir!" in a playful manner. He then turns to his mom and says "Mom, why does everyone think I am a boy?". FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, at my job as a cashier, a man and his 3-year old son got in line. The father said, "Give this to the pretty lady," looking at me. The kid looks at me, looks at his dad, and walks over to the next cashier. FML
Today, I was working at my job as a cashier, checking out an elderly woman's groceries. She was very nice, and we chatted for a couple minutes. Once she had paid, she leaned close to me and said, very politely, "I'm so so sorry that I mistook you for a girl at first, young man." I AM a girl. FML
Today, I was at work handling the cash register. It wasn't working correctly, so I apologized to the woman I was waiting on for the delay and explained, "The cash register's being a little retarded today." Then I noticed her clearly "special" adult son standing behind her. FML
Thanks, come again!
Today, I was ringing a lady up at the register. I noticed her son was doing the peepee dance, so I rushed the payment process up and handed her the receipt. The little boy said "Mommy" and the mom looked down, then back up at me saying, "Your problem now" and walked out. The boy had pissed on the floor. FML
Today, my 17-year-old employee accidentally called me "Dad". We all got a good laugh from it and went on with our days. Later, after getting her some coins for her cash drawer, she playfully said, "Thanks, Daddy." The customer she was serving? My wife. FML
Graded
Today, while cashiering, I rang out a father and his son who looked about eight years-old. The dad jokingly told his son that I was a 10/10 in looks. The son then looked at me for a few seconds and said, "No, probably more like a seven." Thanks a lot. FML
Today, a little girl came up to me and asked, "Are you a boy or a girl?" I said, "I'm a girl of course!" She walked away, looking dazed and saying, "Whoa." FML
It's not what you think
Today, I took my 4 year-old son to the bank with me. He asked why we were going, and I explained that I had a couple of checks that they would turn into money. When we got in line, he loudly exclaimed, "Mommy has checks for money!" Except "checks" sounded almost exactly like "sex." FML
Today, I was at the store buying some feminine products. At the cash register, the clerk said to me "Dude, you know those are for girls right?" I am a 30 year old woman. FML
Well played
Today, my 6 year-old told me that he was stealing the fan I just bought. I told him he could have it for $25. He said, "What, you think I’m made of money?" My response was, "Well, you think I’m made of money." He replied, "Isn’t that what MOM stands for?" FML

Depends on the age. If you shaved the heads of every 5 year old in the country, you might not be able to tell their gender apart with all their clothes on.

This happened to me once when I was talking to a mom who had a kid that had shoulder length hair. I called him a "her" and I was embarrassed when I learned the truth.

Maybe the kid doesn't want long hair asshole

You would be surprised how much this happens to me as a 13 year old girl with really short hair. I don't agree with #1 cause anyone can feel free to express them self how they choose, it may be very confusing sometimes but damn is it funny to see the look on peoples faces when they get it wrong.

My sister used to have short hair, and when we'd go somewhere without my mom and I bought something, people would ask me what my "little brother" wanted. She laughs about it now.

I wish I knew what the kid looked like. I once saw a boy with the longest, curliest blond hair. It was GORGEOUS. But he was a 10 year old boy. (The parents were total weirdos). If the kid has short hair like a boy I can see how you would say that, but if the kid had long hair then I don't know what to tell you.

"The parents were total weirdoes" = you are close-minded and possibly a redneck.

You worry too much. I have done this too many people at work before. I learned not to say anything.

Haha. That's nothing. Now what really sucks is when someone says, "Excuse me, Miss," and you happen to be a guy. I would know. xD Get real, OP - yours isn't the FML.

I have a friend who's often mistaken for a girl and who has short hair... stop being so judgemental. Even though mullets ARE indeed atrocious. And long hair can look good on some guys.

Yeah, agreeing with posters above, little kids are often mistaken... When I went to the hospital to visit my sister and I went to the section with all the babies... Without the blue and red tags... I never would have guessed for most of them... How's your life ****** though? You just guessed a gender wrong in a kid, not something to feel ****** about... I actually thought a person my age was a guy from the haircut.... Turns out it was a lesbian but she really looked like a boy... I felt awkward but that was it...
