Today, after working my ass off for 2 months, receiving perfect reviews, and going out of my way to take on extra work to get a job offer from the location where I temp, I finally got an offer for a permanent position. Included in the offer was a $3.00 an hour pay cut and no insurance. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Contracted
Today, I finally got an offer for a salaried position with the company I've been working for as a contractor for the past two years. They offered less than what I make now, but hey, benefits! FML
Quiet quitting time
Today, I went to do a drug test for a new job. While I was there, they said the job was part-time with no insurance. Previously it was supposed to be full time with insurance. Now I have to take a job that pays $20,000 less a year. FML
Gimme more
Today, I finally got the call from HR telling me I passed the interview and will get a permanent position, doing the same job I already do. Then they continued to say that if I accept, my pay will be cut to match “other employees pay”. I barely make it on what they are paying me now. I also have a Master's degree. FML
Today, after months of searching, I was offered a job. After hearing how excited I was on the phone, HR docked the initial salary offer by 40% in the written contract. She said it was non-negotiable. Guess I'm back to job hunting. FML
Exploitation
Today, after trying so hard to get myself back on my feet, I had an amazing interview and I was hired on the spot. I was so happy, until I read the position I was given, and it turns out I didn't get full-time, I got barely enough hours to even be part-time. FML
Today, I was forced into accepting a "promotion" for a position that pays less than what I get right now. FML
Today, after working 85 hours in a single week, I finally got my paycheck. $500. Apparently I got a pay cut without anyone telling me. FML
Today, after 3 years at my job I received a 14% raise. I was informed I will be transitioned from hourly to salary. I will now be making $1500 LESS than I made last year. FML
Downsizing awaits
Today, I got a 25-cent raise at work. That would be wonderful, had they not cut 6 hours off my schedule as well. I'm now making $200 less a month than I was pre-raise. FML
Today, I had my six month employee review. My manager said that my attendance was good, and I was exceeding my targets performance wise. My reward, a five cent per hour pay cut. Apparently the rate at which I started is too high to meet their current pay scale. FML

Welp, you better don your favorite false mustache and reapply to the temp program.

Temp jobs often pay more than their permanent equivalent. It sucks sometimes but that's the way it is, at least in Australia anyway

That's because with temp or casuals as they are known they don't have to pay holiday pay, sick days plus it's easier to get rid of someone. Over here it's almost impossible to get fired if your permanent and do your job properly.

The thing is - Temp agencies charge an employer extra on top of their hourly wage. So if you're making $10 an hour as a Temp, they're charging the Employer $15 an hour for you to work for them. So the employer is just a cheapass.

That's not unusual. Temps often get paid more then newly hired employees, the company doesn't have to pay your social security (in the U.S.) workers comp insurance and other cost associated with permanent employees. That's why more and more companies are using temps.

Yeah, but they're STILL not paying that. So they don't have that excuse.

The only thing that they "are not paying" is insurance. They will still pay SS matching and workers comp insurance. Maybe some vacation time and paid holidays also. There is also the possibility that OP mist-understood and she will get insurance after a period of time. Some employers don't put new employees on insurance plans, or other benifits until after a certain "grace period" length of time.

Mist-understood... Wow. I think you misunderstood your grammar lessons in school.

19, that seems like an autocorrect thing. I know my autocorrect can not only be sneaky but also have really ******* weird results.

If you go through a temp agency. Then the company has to buy out your contact with them. Making the permanent job unable to pay you full rate. The temp agency gets more then you do. Your better off applying outside the temp jobs.

Tell them you refuse their offer but you're willing to temp until they find someone else.

This is when you negotiate. I'm not sure of the position, but agreeing to all others above that temps get paid more, but it's up to you to close that gap; work for X amount of time and get a raise/promotion. Good luck out there. Either that or find a temp job with no end assignment date.

Companies don't like to give raises anymore or promote you to a different position. They'll hire an outsider and have you train them. Then they will be your new boss. If you do a good or great job they don't want to go through the trouble of replacing a sure thing.

There's also a learning curve that some companies don't want to pay for, especially their mistakes. But it could be either or, depending on the position.

They are then going to take that three dollars and buy three more people.
