Today, after selling their car, my parents decided to inform me that my car (that I paid for myself) is now going to be the "Family Car". They also informed me that since it is, after all, my car, I'll still have to pay for the gas and maintenance. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I just bought a car with all of my own money. Then, when I brought it home my dad informed me that my mom will be driving it to work every day. FML
Today, my mom sold the car I've been working on for the last few years for 100 dollars. To buy gas for her car. FML
Sick ride, dude
Today, my parents said that they bought me a car. I had been begging for one for a year and they always said that I would have to pay for it myself. I got really excited and went to the garage to see my new ride. It was a Hot Wheels car with a note saying, "Save your money". FML
Car brain
Today, I got woken up by my parents telling me I had to go buy a car so they could have transportation. Neither of their cars work, so I was letting them use mine, and then they wrecked it. It needs nearly a thousand bucks in repairs to be drivable again, but since it was my car, I have to replace it now to appease them. FML
Lonesome wheels
Today, while talking to my parents about my car, my dad said, "Don't put a lot of money into it because we will give you ours when we move." I asked why, and my mom responded, "Well, we helped your sister with her wedding, so this is going to be your wedding gift." I'm getting a car out of pity for not having a wife. FML
Beater
Today, I bought a used car from a private dealer my parents had recommended. On my way home they called to tell me that their car broke down. They bought it last week from the same guy. FML
Responsibilities
Today, my daughter got upset because, even though I bought the car for her when she got her license, I told her it was her responsibility to pay the tax, insurance and MOT every year. End result, my daughter is a selfish brat and I returned the car, but lost a bunch of my deposit money. FML
Independence day
Today, I got a text from my dad asking about my car in the shop. I'm trying to show them that I can actually be independent, but now they know that not only will it cost all my savings account to fix it, but also that my boyfriend will be driving me to work for the next month while the shop waits for the parts. FML
Not the golden child
Today, my father retired and made sure to buy both my younger sisters and their partners near new cars. Despite only one having a licence. Then bought the bare minimal definition of a "functioning" car for me, as compensation for paying off the family car on my own. FML
Carless whisper
Today, my car broke down. Yesterday, my husband mentioned he found my dream car for sale, but I'd insisted my car had a lot of miles left and we should save money. They sold my dream car this morning. Now I'm carless. FML

If my parents did that to me I'd tell them they can either start contributing to gas and maintenance or they can start finding other ways to travel, like a bus, or a bike. They may be your parents but if you paid for that car with your own money, you should still have a say on who can and can't use it, and you shouldn't have to foot the car bills yourself if you aren't the only one using it.

Damn parents. You at least say SOMETHING... but sorry to say it probably won't work...

**** that! My parents always said that anything we purchased with our own money was ours, and they wouldn't bother it. I would absolutely forbid them keys. Maybe its time to move out...

Only buy enough gas for you to use, that way when they need the car they have to pay for their own gas. If that doesnt work... run away!

You paid for it. Tell them no. Simple as that.

There has to be a back story to this tale. You are probably very old to be living at home, apparently don't have a job that would render the car unavailable for long periods of time or your parents don't actually drive enough to need to own a car. Please don't call the cops on your family that is very WT

Your parents are assholes. Move out. If you can afford a car, you can afford a new place.

agree with 139. OP isnt telling us entire story. Grow some and either move out or sell the car and buy yourself a moped

Oh, they sound like bastards. Move out ASAP.

Solution 1: Road trip (they're not invited). Solution 2: Discover that you really love public transport and have no reason to fill up the gas tank seeing as you're not going to be driving anywhere. They can drive as much as they want on the currently half-full tank until it runs out.
