Today, a guy I like asked me to a dance. Trying to act modest and at the same time compliment him, I told him, "You could do so much better, though." After thinking for a moment, he replied, "You're right, I could. Never mind," and walked away. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, although I can't dance, I decided to go to a club. A really cute girl asked me to dance, and I politely declined. She kept insisting, so I finally said okay. A few minutes in, she stopped, looked at me, and said, "If you're going to make fun of my dancing, I'm leaving." FML
Today, I went to a dance with the boy I like. To my delight, he tried to pick me up. To my dismay, he couldn't. FML
Today, I was at my senior dance dancing with this guy I really like. He was telling me how he likes a strong woman who's not afraid to make the first move. Empowered by what he said, I asked him out. He said no because he thinks girls shouldn't ask guys out. FML
The Lady in Red
Today, I was at a party. The music changed to a slow dance. Everybody grabbed a partner and I was left on the dancefloor alone. Suddenly, this guy walked up to me. I swore that he was going to ask me to dance. He then said, "Could you hold me my drink?" and went to dance with another girl. FML
Today, while at the club, I started dancing with a girl who I had noticed throughout the night. When she turned around she firmly stated, "I'd much rather dance by myself". FML
Desperate
Today, my guy friend kept complaining that no one had asked him to the dance, so he probably wasn't going to go. I suggested that we go together. He laughed until his face was bright red and said, "I don't think I'll ever get that desperate." FML
Today, it was Homecoming. During the dance, I saw this mentally handicapped guy ask this pretty girl to dance. She said no. So I went over to him and asked him to dance. He replied that he only wanted to dance with "pretty girls" and I was not one. FML
Today, I was out with my girlfriend at a club. As a slow dance began, a guy approached and asked, "May I cut in?" My girlfriend surprised me by saying, "Sure!" As I was about to protest, the guy cut me off and said, "Sorry miss, I was asking him." FML
Today, a cute guy ditched his date and walked up to me, calling me beautiful. Not knowing how to reply, I just blushed. His date got angry and left. "Sorry. I take that back," he then said. "I was just trying to get rid of her. Thanks anyway." FML
Today, I got left in the middle of slow dancing with a girl I liked. She came back and said, "Sorry, I had to make sure the guy I really like knows that I don't like you." FML

I think he just mis interpreted your response for a subtle rejection. bummer though.

A simple yes would have sufficed.

This is why when something good happens, don't question it. Let it be.

She had it coming. I hate when a guy flirts/compliments a girl and they throw themselves a pity party. Guys say it's a huge turnoff too. Most likely why he walked away. YDI OP.

We hate it when girls fish for complements. It's annoying.

Agreed, it's kinda cute to be the one to make her feel special. BUT, we hate the whole fishing for compliments thing!!

Agreed, sometimes girls over do it.

It's just like when you say a girl is pretty or something like that and she's all "No I'm not." I've never understood why they can't just take the compliment.

27- Just my opinion, but a lot of girls honestly don't think they're pretty. We're always blasted with this image of what makes a woman beautiful, and the majority of girls really don't measure up to that ideal. Girls, especially teenage girls still struggling with their self image, often battle low self-esteem. On top of that is the overall opinion that if someone ever admits that they feel beautiful then they must conceited. Most people don't want to seem self-absorbed, so the girls panic and refuse to let themselves think that they're attractive for more than a few seconds. They'll bring up examples to themselves of people who are prettier. It leads to the sad scenario of a girl looking in the mirror everyday and thinking to herself that she is an ugly piece of crap, that everyone can see that scar or that her lips arn't shaped right. If she ever has an optimistic day and feels lovely, then a new voice of doubt perks up and she's left going, "Oh, God, what am I thinking? I'm no where near as pretty as so-and-so, ect." Tell her she's pretty, and she'll deny it, because in her mind, she's really not. Of course, boys and men often have the same issues, so it's easier to just say being a human around other humans makes for an awkward clusterfuck, especially when we're young. Life can be really scary.

#30 is completely correct, if someone say I'm pretty I will say "Yeah right, but thanks anyway" I don't believe I'm pretty. And many girls are the same way.

#41 but at least you accept it... you might not believe it but you don't just reject the compliment. And that's what #27 meant.

#30 nailed it. But i think most people overlook that stuff like "youre pretty" is subjective. In my experience its always interpreted as objective. Thus resulting in answers like "no im not". Sadly the Objectivism is Pushed into us like #30 described. But in reality its not true. Its like liking a specific genre of music and disliking others. Oh and in general. Lowering yourself to make a Compliment to others is seldom a good idea.

So many thumbs up to you good sir or madame. You describe how i usually feel exactly, except i just accept it with a smile. Usually to pick myself up i just list my favorite features about myself.

Girls know if they are attractive, but if they're not the prettiest girl in the area they just act modest

#30 you are right but in my experience on this planet as a guy I've found that the only people that actually compare themselves and others to people in magazines are female and me and all my guy friends could give less of a crap wether you look like Megan fox or whoever else.

Sometimes it really is hard not to overthink. Short sentences for the win though!

Ah, it's okay, OP. He's not worth dancing with anyway.

Clearly is ;)

I'm sure it was your seemingly lacking confidence that turned him away, and probably not so much your looks. Lesson learned!
Damian95 16
Sometimes it's better to be confident. He didn't ask you to dance for no reason! You'll get it next time!

Yes is quite a simple answer....

First understand that you could probably do better yourself.

I'm sorry you kinda deserved that. Confidence is sexy!
