The weakest link
Today, at work I accidentally shut down a computer that does the essential routine jobs and hasn’t been turned off in 11 years. When it turned on again all the updates we’ve been ignoring decided to run at the same time. The run time is currently 4 hours and our whole office is in a shambles. FML

maybe the office shouldn't gave ignored the updates. you probably did them a favor in the long run.

any reliance that heavy on a single computer is dangerous. A single point of failure will destroy that business.

Pretty irresponsible of IT to let a machine go that long without updating, and especially without some kind of redundancy,

Yeah, leaving a computer on for 11 years? Seriously, no restarts or shut downs ever? You're lucky the damn thing is still alive. I have computers at my work that are 20 years old and they don't even handle updates anymore, and they're slower than molasses in January. This sounds like a computer that needs replaced if it's that old and hasn't been updated for that long. That's just opening the entire company up to vulnerabilities like hackers and viruses. Terrible idea.
