Today, I got home from visiting my long-distance girlfriend. I spent $366 to get a plane ticket to visit her for the week. The day after I arrived there, she broke up with me and I had to buy a ticket for an earlier flight home. With fees and penalties, I paid around $550 to be broken up with. FML

Today, I flew cross-country to see my girlfriend of three years. Once I got there, she broke up with me. I was supposed to be staying for a month and now I have nowhere to go. FML
Today, my girlfriend and I went on vacation. We flew 2000 miles, got off the plane, got our bags and stood outside the airport for our ride. She looks at me and says, "I can't do this anymore." So, she broke up with me and flew back home. Now I'm on vacation alone. FML
Today, my girlfriend called saying that she wanted to break up because she wasn't into me anymore. Yesterday, I paid $400 to take her to a Red Sox game, so I asked her why she even came with me. She said that she had been talking to her ex-boyfriend, and he said he was going to that game too. FML
Today, after I flew 16 hours across the world to see my girlfriend, on the fifth day of the holiday we broke up because she ended up telling me she "can't do distance." After all those hours of flying, we spent the last 3 days in the hotel room mostly crying, and I asked her face to face, "Why did you break me?" She left; I'm broken. FML
Today, I could finally get a plane ticket to go see the girl I have been talking to for the past 5 months. Just as I told her the exciting news, she told me that she was no longer interested in me. Guess that's 800 dollars down the toilet. FML
Today, my long distance friend-with-benefits informed me she's now in a relationship with an amazing guy. I should be happier for her, as even I admit he is perfect for her. Too bad I just spent over a thousand dollars on plane tickets to visit her. The tickets are completely nonrefundable. FML
Today, I spent 900 dollars on a ticket for my boyfriend to visit me and he missed the flight. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me with a message that I had to pay $1 to see. FML
Today, my girlfriend of six months dumped me over the phone. I'm in the military and recently had to move away to another fort. We'd agreed that we would try to make long distance work. I'd even offered to buy a plane ticket to come see her each weekend. I've been gone less than two weeks. FML
Today, I caught a flight to see my boyfriend, who is stationed in the army 300 miles away. When I was just 15 minutes from the base he called to say that we should break up. Now I'm heading back to California, single and broke. FML

As for people saying LDR's don't work - they do if both people want them to work. I was in a long distance relationship for over a year and we are now married. As for the op, you should have flown Southwest. No fees to change your tickets. :)

#33 he never actually gave any details on anything, for what we know he got out of a situation that was going nowhere anyway. Not being an asshole, just realistic. If he actually had known her and spent more time with her before she moved away, then it's a different situation. If they planned to move near eachother, different situation. If a relationship goes on where it's just seeing someone a week every few months or so, with no intentions to see more of eachother, then its going nowhere.

haha, wow, that sounds like my story. A week before spring break, i bought plane tickets to visit my friends and my ex. My ex and i only broken up because i moved a couple months before. So my friends and i set up this elaborate way for me to surprise him...the day after i bought the tickets..i found out he had a new gf. it ******* sucked
