Thanks, I hate it
Today, my boss called me into his office. Expecting a long overdue promotion, I hurried in. Instead, he told me he thought I would be perfect to take his son on a pity date, because he's a suicide risk due to his depression. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my boss called me into his office. I've been working hard doing extra work so I can get promoted. He called me in to tell me I'm to reliable in my current position, so I won't be moving up. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me. My boss called me into her office and congratulated me, and spent almost half an hour asking me what our wedding plans were, where we might honeymoon, if we wanted kids, etc. She then followed this by suddenly remembering she had called me into the office to sack me. FML
Today, my boss gave me a speech about my "motivation issues". I've been working for him for 2 months, the commissions I've made for him paid off his bills, so what are my motivation issues? I turned down his offer of a date. I have a boyfriend. He keeps asking. FML
Today, my boss called me over to his office; he wanted me to fire four hardworking employees. One of them was the girl I was going to ask out. FML
Today, I got a heads-up that my boss suffered a death in the family, but was coming into work anyway. I thought he'd be depressed, but it seems he deals with grief with anger instead. I found that out when he yelled at me, threatening to rip my spine out my ass over a typo I made in a report. FML
Today, I told my new boss to wish his daughter a happy birthday on my behalf, as I overheard him saying it was today. Turns out she committed suicide three years ago. FML
Today, after three weeks of my boss telling me how much he appreciates my hard work and has submitted my name up for a promotion, he called me into his office to announce I'm being laid off. FML
Today, my coworker and I agreed to come clean and tell our fellow employees that we have been secretly dating for a while. Before we could, I received a promotion. I'm now his boss. FML
Today, I sat down to discuss wanting a promotion and ended up getting so nervous that I broke down crying in front of my boss. FML
Today, I called my boss to let her know that I was suffering from severe depression and that my doctor suggested I take a month's leave. Her response? "Glad you are getting help, however we can't hold your job. No need to come to the office, we'll mail your stuff to you." FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

Maybe if you have sex with him, you can seal the deal... with the promotion of course.

go on the date , and maybe you can help the poor guy. Your boss thought you were the right women for the job . You might even get a raise from from your boss if you can really help him brighten up his day .

You know, complaining about having to cheer someone up who has been contemplating suicide kind of makes you sound like a total bitch. But I'm sorry you didn't get that promotion /sarcasm

Suicide is a serious problem, but it's not her responsibility to help him deal with it. She doesn't even know him. It's not fair to guilt and manipulate someone into doing things for a suicidal person. A date won't help him if he's depressed.

I agree with what #65 said. OP's boss is in a position of power and should not be forcing a date with his son on her. How would you feel (@#64) if someone forced an unwanted date on you? The whole situation sucks. Sounds like OP is screwed either way. If she says no, the boss will hold a grudge against her. If she says yes, she has to go out with someone she has no interest in dating. And if things go awfully wrong between them, then OP's boss will still hold a grudge against her. OP, I suggest you start looking for another job. If you boss has no common sense not to use his position of power in this case, what is to stop him next time?

The boss obviously means well, but trying to cure suicidal tendencies with a date is not the way to help his son. Agreeing will only encourage his misguided attempts. Better to gently steer him toward finding a counselor for his son-- maybe offer to do some research or locate a support group if you want to help.

sounds like sexual harassment to me...

if the son is a suicide risk, then he needs help from mental health professionals.. not some girl taking him out on a date. I hope your boss realizes this before its too late. as for your boss asking this of you, so many are clueless when it comes to depression and other mental illnesses that he probably thinks that he is helping, but he's taking the wrong route for him to get help.

Having dated someone with depression and suicidal tendencies, I can honestly say that the last thing someone in that state of mind needs is a little romance. He needs the aid of a therapist and/or psychiatrist, and ASAP.
