Today, I found out that a two-day job I helped my dad do for his old friend was actually a job for a real customer, who paid my dad £4500. All I got for my two days work was coffee and Co-op sandwiches for dinner. FML

Thanksgiving
Questions about your love life, a burnt turkey and the cousin who knows everything: Thanksgiving, a contact sport.
Today, my boss told me he was going to start taking money out of my pay, because his wife makes us lunch. I work for my dad, and he wants to start charging me because my mom makes me a sandwich. FML
Today, I was working at our garage sale with my dad. I sat outside for 2 hours, talked to three people, and sold nothing. My dad came outside and got angry at me, so I told him to give it a shot. He sold 3 things to the first guy who walked in. FML
Today, I got offered an interview for a great job. My father then spent the entire dinner telling me how pointless it was, and how I should apply to the factory next door because I would spend all the extra money on gas. FML
Today, I busted my ass to help this old lady move her stuff because she was going to a nursing home. I was told I would get paid. When I finished four hours later the lady took me to a room and told me to pick out anything in her little goody bag. I got a race car as payment. FML
Today, it was supposed to be payday. Instead, it was the day I found out that, for two weeks, I have been volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, and am not actually employed by a construction company. FML
Today, my coworker got a raise by making our boss give me a pay cut for doing his job while he was slacking off. As we were heading home for the day, he found $100. FML
Today, my son is so naive that he didn’t notice that a company he interviewed for basically used him as free labour during a 3 day “skills assessment period”, after which he didn’t even get the job. Even after I explained to him they'd used him for 3 days free grunt work, he still didn’t understand. FML
Today, my boss asked me to talk to the HR manager to see if I was happy about my pay, which made me think I was going to get a raise. Turns out they paid me nearly twice as much as they should have for the last 2 years and I owe them over €5000. FML
Today, I was conned out of £50,000 by my own father, who everyone thought had been dead for 3 years. FML
Today, my boss bragged to a coworker, in front of me, about how much money he saved on a project because he majorly underpays me. My boss is my dad. FML

You need your dad to teach you business. Ask about "maximizing profit" -- he seems excellent at this.

While it was dishonest of Dad to claim the job was a free one for a friend, he apparently lived up to what you expected at the time - Food and a chance to work with your dad. But what you should ultimately take away from this is the skill and practice of how to make a living working. When I was very young, my dad was a projectionist at a drive in movie theatre. Besides seeing all movies free, my lifelong fascination with electronics came from being with and helping my dad do the maintenance on the projector and sound system. Later Dad switched over to air conditioning and appliance repair and installation. I tagged along during summers as Dad’s helper. I do not recall being paid for much of that besides an allowance and my lunch. But what I learned from that was something about electricity, appliances, and air conditioning units. And I learned by watching and listening how to run a small business. I became an electronic engineer, but my personality was highly influenced by the things I learned working with my dad. You never lose that… I suggest that you be respectful, but honestly discuss with Dad how much you should be paid to do the work you do. Bear in mind Dad has a lot more expenses than you, so be reasonable. In the future you should identify up front if you are going to be paid or not to work with Dad. In the end you and Dad need to come to some sort of understanding.

That's a scandal. It should have been at least pizza and a beer.
