Today, it was supposed to be payday. Instead, it was the day I found out that, for two weeks, I have been volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, and am not actually employed by a construction company. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I finished my project two weeks early. Now I am being laid off because there is no work to do. FML
Today, I got fired from my volunteer job. FML
Heaven knows I'm miserable now
Today, I got hired and now I have to work. FML
Strange system
Today, I was expecting a big sum of money for skipping last year's vacation while working as a freelancer, as I've done the last four years. Turns out I won't get the money, as last month I accepted a full time employment, and now that money has been turned into vacation days instead. Guess I won't buy a new home yet… FML
No good deed goes unpunished
Today, I went in for my first day of work. I told them three months in advance that I was going away for 2 weeks to build a school in a third world country. I was fired. FML
Charity case
Today, I took unpaid leave for a month to work as a temp at a charity organisation, assuming it was paid due to the great benefits mentioned. During my placement, I noticed clues it was voluntary but it didn't register. At the end, I discovered it was unpaid. I get to do voluntary work for a whole month. FML
Welcome to the machine
Today, I was laid off on the day I was about to put in an offer on a house. This company promised me the world, and I broke myself working to prove my worth. Turns out, I wasn't getting paid for the lunches and breaks I didn't take either. FML
Today, I got a badly-needed job at a local discount store. After being hired, I found out I'm to help with the soon-to-begin store closing sale, and I'll be jobless again after 3 months. FML
Today, after working 12 shifts in the past 8 days at 2 jobs and thinking today was a day off, I got the call that I misread my schedule and I was in fact scheduled. Got off at 2:30 am, work again at 9 am with 9 shifts to go this week. FML
Scammers gonna scam
Today, it was the day that I had been waiting for weeks to arrive: I finally finished the hiring process for my new job… Only to find out not only my paycheck, but the job itself was fake. Thanks Indeed, my first new bank account after years of debt, my disability, and my will to live greatly appreciate it. FML

How the hell did you manage that one? This is either fake or you're a moron the likes of which I've never seen before.

What about the W2 form you need to fill out to get paid.
npeezle 0
That'd be a w-4 form, slick. ;)

The W-4 and an interview and other extensive paper work.

YDI for being the most idiotic and/or unobservant person on the planet.

How do you NOT KNOW you were volunteering? It's usually made very, very clear and if you had an interview they would have explained it at least 6 times that "hey you do realize this is a volunteer position, you still wanna do this right?? " *hopeful look on interviewer's face* YDI for being the most moronic person on the face of the planet.

With ALL jobs when you're hired they say that (blank) is payday right! And if they did not say that then would you not ask which day is payday? With all in mind I call Fake

FAKE. How can you not discuss your salary before you accept the position??
MrAdventure 1
Exactly! How do you go working somewhere and not know how much you're going to get paid? How stupid are you?

People that work for family often don't discuss it. It could be that a relative is a contractor for construction and asked him to help work on a house for Habitat for Humanity, and he just assumed that work meant pay
Jernau_Gurgeh 0
Maybe he got fired, but nobody told him, and since there were also volunteers working on the project, the other bureaucrats just assumed he switched to volunteering?

I imagine they're pissed because they have no income to pay their bills, not because they did something good for someone and didn't get paid. If they worked in construction it's not like their job responsibilities would've been much different, and I'm guessing his co-workers didn't say anything. Depending on how you're employed (part-time, casual, through an employment agency) it's quite possible for this to happen. FYL OP.
