Shy guy
Today, I took my son to a birthday party. He spent the entire time clinging to my hand and refused to play with his friends, eat, or participate in activities. His friend tried to pull him away from me, but he refused to go. When we left, he started crying because he felt left out. FML

How old is your son? If he's a toddler... well, they're going to do that. I'll assume you did as well as you could with encouraging him to explore. It may have been a good lesson: the bold have more fun. If he's already four or so, the right approach is probably to leave him there. If you treat it casually, he'll probably relax and have fun.

Child logic. There's no explaining it.
