Today, I accidentally hit an elderly man while driving. The police came, and five minutes later I was told that he confessed to walking in the middle of the road to get hit and claim compensation. He was fine, but I still got charged for hitting a pedestrian. FML

Today, a car hit me. I didn't get hurt, but someone called 911. The old woman who had hit me got out of the car with no problem to look at me, and gets back into the car. When the police arrive, she pulls out crutches and said I made strange faces and made her hit me. I got blamed. FML
Today, I was on the bus, it hit a bump on the road and made me hit a elderly man. The bus driver thought I did it on purpose and made me get off. FML
Today, at a red light, an old lady crossing the street fell right in front of my car. I got out of my car to help her. The light turned green and I was still helping the woman to her feet. An officer came by and ticketed me for "impeding the flow of traffic." FML
Today, I was sent to the hospital after being hit by a car while on my bicycle. The police officer said it was my fault for not looking, even though the car pulled up without looking. I now have a small herniated disc in my neck and abrasions on my thigh. FML
Today, as I was sitting in my car in a mall parking lot, an old couple got into their new van and backed right into me. The man got out and in broken english decided it was no big deal. He turned to leave and tried to pat my back, but smacked my ass instead. I was hit by a car, and spanked for it. FML
Today, I accidentally rear-ended an undercover police car. FML
Today, while I was walking to class, I was hit by a car. The driver stopped to let me cross in front of her, started moving again, hit me, and then yelled at me, saying it was my fault for walking in front of her. FML
Today, I got called out of class to talk to some cops. Turns out my car was involved in a hit and run accident, while I was in school and there was no possible way it could have been me. But since they have no one else, it's my fault. FML
Today, while on the highway, a guy in a truck sped up to pass me. He was hauling a trailer, which hit me and ran me off the road. I called the cops and followed him all the way into town, where the cops pulled him over. They let him go without even a ticket, because, "He didn't know he hit you." FML
Today, I hit a car while trying to park. Assuming that no one saw, I moved my car and parked somewhere else. Hours later I get a call from the university police. While backing up to go to the police station I hit another car. FML

That's just how it is though. Pedestrians always have the right of way even if they are doing something they really shouldn't, but you did not deserve that I'm sorry.

So I'm assuming that every time you're driving down a road at a decent speed and you see a pedestrian walking down the sidewalk, you slow down to almost nothing when you go by JUST in case they jump out in front of you? Because otherwise, you're a complete hypocrite and OP's situation COULD happen to you.

All it said was "walking in the middle of the road" which I took literally, so yes, if someone is walking about in the road I worry they're drunk or whatever and slow down. But obviously if an old sad insurance-claim-seeking man jumps in front of the car it's pretty unavoidable.

This could have happened at night in a poorly lit street, it's really hard to see people in some circumstances, especially if they are wearing dark clothing.

People, read the fml. There is nothing said about the old man jumping. He was also okay. So the fml gives me the impression that the old man didn't jump but was just strolling in the middle of the street. If that was the case and op was paying attention, he would not have hit the old man.

You hit a man with your car. I don't know about Australia, but in the US that's illegal even if he was walking in the middle of the road expressly to get hit. He's a douche, but you should be in control of your car while driving it.
