Today, my dad might be dead. I'm basing this solely on the fact that he hasn't called recently to verbally abuse me as he often does. He constantly beat me as a child, yet now I'm kind of worried for the piece of shit. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, whenever I call my father on the phone he never answers, but if I ever ignore his calls he wishes me dead. FML
Today, I learned that now that my mom is dead, and my dad doesn't need my emotional support during her illness anymore, he's going to go back to insulting me every time he talks to me. FML
Today, I found out that the only reason I'm alive is because my dad beat the living shit out of my mom to stop her getting an abortion. FML
Today, my mom was put in jail for beating the shit out of my dad. FML
Today, my deadbeat dad threatened to press charges against me for harassment if I ever contact him again. I've contacted him twice in the last two years, once to tell him he was going to be a grandfather, and once to send him a birthday card from my son. FML
Today, my father is living with me because he's broke, but sometimes he has temper tantrums and calls me a son of a bitch. I can't stand to be name-called when I support him 1000%, and then we got into a violent physical fight. We both end up hurt, so I want to kick him out of my house, but I can't because he won't leave. FML
Today, my dad and I got into an argument, and he ended up calling me a son of a bitch. My mom heard and started arguing with him over him calling her a bitch. Three hours later, I'm now staying at my gran's house with my mom and hoping her threats of a divorce weren't for real. FML
Today, my dad heard that the guy who bullied me at school died recently of a drug overdose. For some reason, he thinks we were actually best friends, and thinks I'm doing drugs too. I'm now not allowed out of the house except to go to school. He won't listen to a word I say. FML
Today, I had a really shitty fight with my dad. We were standing in front of each other, screaming and yelling. Everything gets so complicated and annoying when it comes to him, and I vividly have some deep daddy issues which affect my everyday life. FML
Today, it's my 21st birthday. I got a call from my deadbeat dad, who I thought had finally mellowed and had something nice to say. Nope; he just told me I'm 21 years a disappointment, then hung up. FML

So pick up the phone and call if you are that worried about him... It may not change his behavior, but it might settle your fears.

I understand. My father would call me almost daily to scream and threaten me since I moved. I had to change my number. If you have siblings, or other family members, please call them instead to find out. That way you get what you want, without giving him the satisfaction of calling him. I'm sorry for your pain and I hope all goes well

I get what other commenters are saying about you not being able to reach out... but why not call from an unrecognizable number (pay phone, someone else's phone) and hang up once you hear his voice? Alternately, you can get someone else to call and fake being a telemarketer. Either way, don't suffer more thinking about it-- he's put you through more than enough.

Sorry to say op but I think you're better off without that piece of garbage. I know he's your father but no parent should ever lay a hand on their child. Don't even bother with him. Consider it a blessing he hasn't called

Well, that's family bonds for ya. My dad has been through a similar situation with his dad, but once in a while he still seems to worry about him.
