Overreaching
Today, I was told I can’t wear a nose ring at my new job because several customers "don’t like it." It’s a very small nose ring and the job is a shack that serves food through a window. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I was working customer service at a large grocery store. I recently got a small, tasteful septum piercing that is barely visible. As I greeted a customer, she began to gag, held out her hand as though she was fending me off, and said, "I can't. Your nose ring makes me sick." FML
Today, I went on a job interview. The interviewer said it all went well, but he can't hire me because I've got a nose piercing, and that type of "image" isn't the kind they're looking for in their employees. This is the guy who had a full sleeve tattoo. FML
Today, at work, a customer told me how unprofessional my piercing made me look, and insisted that someone else wait on his table. It's not a piercing, it's a mole. FML
Today, I got a warning at work for wearing my ear studs. Not only have I worn them the whole time for the last year I was here, I was unaware of this “rule.” I also was just told that the female employees are allowed to wear them, but men are not. “It looks unprofessional.” FML
Today, I was at a job interview at McDonalds. All was going well until the manager told me that I'd have to remove the piercing that I have on my eyebrow. I didn't think that my mole would be so confusing. FML
Today, I was excited about showing everyone at work my new piercing. It's in an interesting place in my ear, and it's not that common. Before I had the chance to tell anyone about it, someone asked, "Are you wearing a hearing aid?" FML
Today, at my new job, I took some food out to a customer. Walking away, I heard a lady mumble, "Oh my God, you could never pay me enough to wear that." FML
Today, I got into trouble at work because a customer complained about my face tattoo, I don't have a face tattoo but I do have one behind my ear. Nonetheless, I still got written up and had to cover it with a band-aid, which ripped out hair when I took it off. FML
Today, I was verbally abused by a customer at my job. Apparently, wearing "ugly, thick-framed hipster glasses as a fashion statement is a HUGE faux pas." These are my actual prescription glasses, and "faux pas" is not pronounced "fox paws". FML
Today, I flew home to visit my parents. We haven't seen each other in two years, I've gotten a few tattoos done since, and I knew they wouldn't approve, so I bought whole new outfits that covered everything and looked professional. When I got there, the first thing my mom says to me is, "Is that a nose ring!?" FML

So are we not wearing masks while still in a global pandemic? That’s nice.

did they bring up a dress code when they hired you? if not, it's probably another employee who doesn't like it.

check the employee handbook. if there's nothing about piercings, you're good

Fair or not, if she's in an at-will state the employer can require anything and fire her for any reason not specifically covered in anti-discrimination laws. And it sounds like it's a small place if it's a "shack" like one of those summer snack/refreshment places. Unfortunately the asshat of a manager/owner can do whatever he sees fit, including changing the dress code after she's already started.

I would find the smallest stud you can, and put it in. I know a guy who just had his nose pierced and it looks like a speck of glitter. He works for a well known gas station chain. Or do not change it, and honestly? People can get over it. I agree with another commenter. Check the employee handbook. Usually if tattoos are allowed so are piercings.

I'm a server and I scratched my nose in front of a table and popped my stud right out. if you're willing to deal with a mask that will give it time to heal up while hidden

... actually you should not have piercings in your nose or mouth while working with open food. I don't remember the exact reason but it's like a bacterial thing I think.

okay but common sense would say not to wear facial piercings if you're handling food.

Welcome to corporate retail where anything that doesn't fit in the mould has to go. This happened to me and I fought it for so long HR meetings and head office meetings to determine wether my tattoos which I was hired with and made plain that I had in two separate interviews were appropriate for my working environment.. I worked in the stockroom and never saw customers. Just get a keeper and some concealer and pretend you took it out it'll be easier in the long run
