Today, I was telling my girlfriend about how my parents are flying out to Japan today on vacation. She was shocked at how short the flight will be, because "It's on the other side of the world." We live in the USA, and it seems I'm dating a Flat Earther. FML

Today, I found out my girlfriend of 3 years actually believes that the Earth is flat. FML
Today, my only daughter and her boyfriend sat me down for an important talk. I was thrilled, thinking they were engaged or pregnant. They actually wanted to tell me they're moving half way around the world. FML
Today, I wanted to surprise my long distance girlfriend by flying to her unannounced. When I arrived at her house, her family tells me that she herself boarded an unannounced flight to where I lived hours ago. Surprise. FML
Today, I had a date with a girl. The chemistry was just right and she seemed perfect in every way until she staunchly insisted that the earth is flat. FML
Today, my girlfriend and I went on vacation. We flew 2000 miles, got off the plane, got our bags and stood outside the airport for our ride. She looks at me and says, "I can't do this anymore." So, she broke up with me and flew back home. Now I'm on vacation alone. FML
Today, I had to show my daughter where the USA is on a map. She's 17, and we live in the USA. FML
Today, I was awakened by knocking on my door, only to find my parents standing there. Turns out, they booked two one-way tickets to visit me from another country. Their plan? I should scrap my upcoming 2-week vacation to hang out because they invested in this trip. Oh, and they didn't book a hotel. I'm 31. FML
Today, I had to explain to my husband that the Earth is not flat. He didn’t believe me. FML
Today, I landed in Hawaii for my vacation. I have a really bad ear infection, and to top my day off, my girlfriend blurted out mid-flight that she thinks we're not going to work out. Aloha! FML
Today, I bumped into my parents at the mall. They didn't tell me they were around. I live 5,000 miles away, in a different country from them. FML

It IS on other side of the world. USA is located in Western hemisphere. Japan - in Eastern. Regardless, Japan is pretty far from USA, unless your flight starts in Alaska.

21, "JUST" across Pacific? Direct distance from California to Japan is 8600+ kilometers (surface travel). That's 1/5th of earth's circumference. Distance from hawaii to japan is 6600+ kilometers. For comparison, Diameter of OUR PLANET is 6300+ kilometers. OP's girlfriend is much smarter than he is. And you people should've studied geography at school.

She probably doesn't realize how fast planes fly. It's hard to believe they go up to 600 mph when they get up to cruising altitude. Whether you see planes from the ground, or are in them, it's hard to comprehend the speed. Or, she could be an idiot.

I was under the impression that it was a combination of distance and air currents that determined how long a flight would be. Sorry to say, but i would probably be in the same boat as your gf since i've never been on a plane and have no idea how long flights take :/
