MY WAIF!
Today, for the third time this year, my wife backed into the garage door. We’d just finally got it fixed exactly one week ago for $1800 from the last time she did it. Somehow it’s my fault. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I backed into our new garage door. The same new garage door that we purchased because I broke our old one by backing into it. FML
Today, after double-checking to make sure the garage door was completely open, I backed my car into it. FML
Today, someone was sent to our house to fix our broken garage door. Mom asked me to pay for it, telling me she'd pay me back this weekend. It was supposed to be about $300 and some change. The door was so broken, it ended up costing $1000, cleaning out my whole savings account. FML
Today, as I was pulling into my driveway, I hit my fence. The same fence that I had repaired last week because I had run into it. FML
Today, I got into a car crash, in my own garage. FML
Today, my mom had been in a really bad mood. She got in the car to take me to work, and without thinking, started backing up. The garage door was only half open, and now has a huge dent in it. FML
Today, my old ass garage door got bent while I was trying to close it. I broke nearly all of my fingernails trying to force it back into place. Time to get a new garage door. FML
Today, I paid $2300 to a mechanic for fixing my car. It's also the day I got into an accident and totalled said car. FML
Today, I drove my husband's car to the mall because my car was in the shop. The bumper was being repaired because I got rear ended while stopped at a traffic light. While stopped at the same intersection I got rear ended again. FML
Today, my mum hit me with her car as she was backing out of the driveway, hitting my leg, and crushing my bike. For the third time this year. FML

2 options then. Option 1. Remove the garage door. Option 2. Sell car and she can ride with you or uber

Previously it was "you left the garage open, so when I clicked the button it went down not up." Given it was 25 degrees outside, and she walked into the garage, she would have noticed if that were the case. It just didn't take. This time she claims it shut on its own, but someone hit the button. She leaves before I wake up, so both times I was sleeping. Mostly she just doesn't want to have to admit she's a bad driver when she's in a rush.

but it was your fault. You were the one who called and had the door repaired after the last time. therefore in some twisted round about way it is your fault.

Yep, your fault. You gave her keys to the car.

She keeps doing it because there's no pain. When you do something that you shouldn't do there has to be some kind of a pain to correct your actions. It could be the pain of having to install a garage door yourself or the pain of paying a huge amount of money to fix it or the pain of not driving a car for a while. One time is too much but of course you're going to forgive your wife but at some point she has to experience some pain in order to change. The problem is you're supposed to be your partner as a husband not her dad. You're walking a very fine line. How do you make your wife feel the pain of damaging your house so much while also walking with her? I think you work with her to fix the garage door but keep it ugly for a while so that every time she sees it she remembers. This is not like some controlling punishment. The fact is that as humans it's hard for us to change if we don't want to.
