Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my 10-year-old niece asked me how to spell "embarrassing." I confidently spelled it out. She giggled and said, "No, that's wrong." She was right, and to make matters a tad ironic, I'd just finished bragging about winning a spelling bee back in middle school. FML
Today, I found myself arguing with a 6-year-old over a game of tag. FML
Today, I got into an argument with a 7 year old. He said that Obama was the 44th President, I said he was the 42nd. Guess who was right. FML
Today, the kids I teach informed me that I had spelled my name incorrectly on the board. I looked at it and assured them that I had spelled it correctly. I'm 22 and a graduate student, they're six and mentally challenged. Guess who was right? FML
Today, my niece, who is fifteen, convinced my six-year-old daughter that her name is spelled C-U-N-T, and just pronounced as Catherine. FML
Today, my seven-year-old niece gave me a birthday card. Only she'd spelled my name as ‘Jenny.’ When I told her it was spelled with an i instead of a y, she cried. FML
Today, trying to be nice, I asked my little sister how school was. She burst into a temper tantrum and screamed at me to fuck off. She's eight. FML
Today, I was reading a picture storybook to a kindergarten kid. She could pronounce more words than me, and corrected me. I'm about triple her age. FML
Today, my nine-year-old niece found my coloring book that features swear words. I took it away and hid it in a different spot. No less than an hour later, her younger sister found it. FML
Today, while home from college for the weekend, my sister started whining about how I keep using "big fancy college words" and making her feel bad. My sister is 27 and teaches elementary school. The word I used was "ludicrous." FML

Question: In Britain, the ones we call 'public' schools are actually private; the free ones are the state schools. Is it the same in America, or do you call state schools public?

"Question: In Britain, the ones we call 'public' schools are actually private; the free ones are the state schools. Is it the same in America, or do you call state schools public?" in the U.S. public schools are like you're state schools. private schools cost extra money, and are not as popular. we also have various religious schools but as i never went to one i'm not sure how those work (in the money sense)

I went public > private > religious. The public was free, private cost a buttload, was female only and had uniforms, religious cost money (because it's not government funded) but no uniforms and it was unisex. There were 3 religious schools where I grew up, all cost money.

Actually in Britain 'free schools' are called public schools and 'paid schools' are called private schools, so I don't know where you got your information from.
