Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my 10-year-old niece asked me how to spell "embarrassing." I confidently spelled it out. She giggled and said, "No, that's wrong." She was right, and to make matters a tad ironic, I'd just finished bragging about winning a spelling bee back in middle school. FML
Today, I found myself arguing with a 6-year-old over a game of tag. FML
Today, I got into an argument with a 7 year old. He said that Obama was the 44th President, I said he was the 42nd. Guess who was right. FML
Today, the kids I teach informed me that I had spelled my name incorrectly on the board. I looked at it and assured them that I had spelled it correctly. I'm 22 and a graduate student, they're six and mentally challenged. Guess who was right? FML
Today, my niece, who is fifteen, convinced my six-year-old daughter that her name is spelled C-U-N-T, and just pronounced as Catherine. FML
Today, my seven-year-old niece gave me a birthday card. Only she'd spelled my name as ‘Jenny.’ When I told her it was spelled with an i instead of a y, she cried. FML
Today, trying to be nice, I asked my little sister how school was. She burst into a temper tantrum and screamed at me to fuck off. She's eight. FML
Today, I was reading a picture storybook to a kindergarten kid. She could pronounce more words than me, and corrected me. I'm about triple her age. FML
Today, my nine-year-old niece found my coloring book that features swear words. I took it away and hid it in a different spot. No less than an hour later, her younger sister found it. FML
Today, while home from college for the weekend, my sister started whining about how I keep using "big fancy college words" and making her feel bad. My sister is 27 and teaches elementary school. The word I used was "ludicrous." FML

Even if you didn't remember the number off the top of your head, you could have always sung it. Your niece would have joined in and you could have been on MLIA instead of FML. By the way, I really hope that you don't teach kindergarten.

I think #7 MAY just be Captain Obvious in disguise. "Not all languages have the same number of letters in their alphabets." DUH

don't worry, you're not alone. I remember in kindergarden, my teacher thought there were 25 letters of the alphabet and the whole class argued against her. So she counted them. =D

I usually think there are 24 letters upon pondering that question. The number 24 is more common than the number 26 in everyday life. It's easy to forget consodering its not knowlege you acces every day. Yes I have a degree and a minor in english, it happens. But never argue with children, you'll never win.
