Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my wife said I was being difficult and unreasonable, and called my mother to talk to me about my behaviour. What did I do, you ask? I dared to share my opinion on something I happen to feel strongly about, instead of just mindlessly agreeing with her opinion like I have for the past 22 years. FML
Today, someone asked my wife if I was her father. FML
Today, my wife screamed, cried, called me lazy and a bad parent, and threatened to leave and take our four kids. All I did was ask for an hour to myself every day for some private time. FML
Today, my daughter came over, furiously ranting that her husband had asked for a divorce. During the conversation, I asked what she did to make him happy. She glared at me and yelled, "It's not my job to make my husband happy!" I'm on her husband's side after that. FML
Today, I went to a family counseling session because my parents are getting a divorce. I told the counselor that I feel guilty because I feel like I caused it. She says that there is no way I could have caused it, that it's my parents' problem when my mom interrupts her to say, "Yes she did." FML
Today, I went to family therapy because my mom wanted the family to be closer. When asked what her biggest disappointment was in life, she turned to me and said, "Having a gay son" then patted my hand, smiled, and said "No offense, honey." FML
Today, my parents tried to convince me to get a divorce. My wife and I are perfectly fine. FML
Today, I was telling my kids off for some misbehaviour when my wife chimed in that in all honestly, they were just behaving like I do most days. I had zero defence to that because it’s true. I've now got a wife and three kids who won’t stop mocking me FML
Today, my awful future daughter-in-law went off on me and said that I'm just jealous that she's marrying my son and I'm not. Furious, I told my husband, expecting him to side with me, but all he said was, "Well… are you?" FML
Today, both of my daughters were having an argument because my youngest has decided that she doesn't want kids. I defended her decision and my oldest daughter told me to STFU and called me a hypocrite. I slapped her across the face for her disrespect and now she's threatening to press charges. FML

I guess now you know you have some things to work on... that's not a bad thing. It's all about communication at this point. I wish you the best though OP.

Well, you're at therapy making an effort to work things out for the family. Now you have something to work on, even if it may not be easy to hear. Listen to why they feel that way and work on it, maybe you do things that are well intended but come across different to your family or something, it certainly doesn't mean you're a bad dad or anything you just need to work it out with your family. My dad is totally like that, he can comes across as such a jerk sometimes, but I know he means well he's just not good at finding the best way to get his message across sometimes, and sometimes it does lead to tension and drama for a bit. Best of luck OP, I hope you can work everything out with your family.

If everyone is disagreeing with you on this, I have to believe there is a good reason behind it. But, as others have said, that may be why you are in the therapy session in the first place.

If they all agree then you must be doing something wrong

There's no point in going if people aren't honest.

your better than mine and brothers. they walked on us. well mine came back but, i never see him. although now a days it doesnt affect me much im too old to care. but hey what can you do you know? any father who stays by their family and doesnt hit them in my book is a damn good dad. just be yourself and keep your family happy if at all possible... even though they probably wont realize it. they are much more lucky than most families now a days. lol gl op

You have scary low standards for being a good parent.

Maybe you shouldn't be a dick. (I marked you deserve it)

What if he's a **** though? Being a good dad is more than just be around and not smacking the shit out of the wife and kids.

Did they at least give you any insight as to why? That way you know if there's something you weren't aware of that you need to work on? Regardless, best of luck with all this OP!
