Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my wife said I was being difficult and unreasonable, and called my mother to talk to me about my behaviour. What did I do, you ask? I dared to share my opinion on something I happen to feel strongly about, instead of just mindlessly agreeing with her opinion like I have for the past 22 years. FML
Today, someone asked my wife if I was her father. FML
Today, my wife screamed, cried, called me lazy and a bad parent, and threatened to leave and take our four kids. All I did was ask for an hour to myself every day for some private time. FML
Today, my daughter came over, furiously ranting that her husband had asked for a divorce. During the conversation, I asked what she did to make him happy. She glared at me and yelled, "It's not my job to make my husband happy!" I'm on her husband's side after that. FML
Today, I went to a family counseling session because my parents are getting a divorce. I told the counselor that I feel guilty because I feel like I caused it. She says that there is no way I could have caused it, that it's my parents' problem when my mom interrupts her to say, "Yes she did." FML
Today, I went to family therapy because my mom wanted the family to be closer. When asked what her biggest disappointment was in life, she turned to me and said, "Having a gay son" then patted my hand, smiled, and said "No offense, honey." FML
Today, my parents tried to convince me to get a divorce. My wife and I are perfectly fine. FML
Today, I was telling my kids off for some misbehaviour when my wife chimed in that in all honestly, they were just behaving like I do most days. I had zero defence to that because it’s true. I've now got a wife and three kids who won’t stop mocking me FML
Today, my awful future daughter-in-law went off on me and said that I'm just jealous that she's marrying my son and I'm not. Furious, I told my husband, expecting him to side with me, but all he said was, "Well… are you?" FML
Today, both of my daughters were having an argument because my youngest has decided that she doesn't want kids. I defended her decision and my oldest daughter told me to STFU and called me a hypocrite. I slapped her across the face for her disrespect and now she's threatening to press charges. FML

Hey, that's why you're there. Just remember that.

I guess now you know you have some things to work on... that's not a bad thing. It's all about communication at this point. I wish you the best though OP.

Be sad, or hurt, and use the therapy sessions to work on yourself to be the man you seem to want to be. Good luck.

I'm confused OP. You're in family therapy. Did you think that only your problems with them mattered, or did you just put yourself on a pedestal above them? Maybe that's why you can't see what's going on down there? Seriously if you want to make anything work that isn't based on mutual self-interest (which any kind of interpersonal relationship be it friend, family, or life partner, shouldn't be based on), you need to work on honesty and communication. They're being honest and communicating with you. You're the one who may not be taking this seriously.

Try looking at it this way: I've been through my fair share of group therapy, and one thing always stands out above all else: "Who is the common denominator?" If everybody disagrees with you, does it mean that everybody is wrong, or just that you are? Pay attention to what your family says during your sessions and instead of dismissing their reasoning behind their "passionate disagreements", try to improve/work on their issues. Saying that you're the victim and your life sucks is denial. It's highly unlikely that everybody agrees on this, but that the problem lies with them.

Well I guess if your kids and your wife don't think you're a good father you're not doing something right

this is the perfect time to open your ears to what they have to say, and try to understand their feelings
