Midlife crisis
Today, the woman I've been dating for a while told me she wants to, "go back to day one of the relationship and just be friends first," but doesn’t want to break up or lose me, all because she’s having a midlife crisis. I was going to propose to her next month, I've already bought the ring. FML

(1) You don’t buy a ring until the two of you have had a serious discussion about getting married. And then the two of you go to the jeweler and pick out rings. That avoids a lot of future problems. “Surprise engagements” are bullshit - They leave both parties open to hurt feelings. (2) See if you can return the ring. Or you could sell it or pawn it at some loss. Your “beloved” is giving you the “let’s be friends” slow goodbye. It’s over.

Are we talkin' Friend Zone or "friend with benefits?"

Okay so... This person you supposedly love enough to spend your life with needs to do some consideration but it's asking you to have patience while they figure it out. Why is that an FML at all? Only issue really is that *most* couples have at least one conversation about marriage possibilities prior to rings being bought...

Correct! Marriage itself isn't the surprise; you should both be on that page. When and how you do it; is. Your life isn't a TV show.

sounds like she wants to go sleep around and keep you on the sideline for when she she feels done using the **** carousel. she ain't yours it's only your turn. best to move on to someone who will actually appreciate you.
