Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I applied for a dental insurance that claims "you cannot be denied". I was denied. FML
Today, I started chemo. My immune system is so bad, it keeps attacking organs throughout my body. I just got a job I love that pays well and has insurance for once, but I’m not sure I can keep working to pay for it, due to chemo side-effects and risky conditions of the job. FML
Today, I had to have emergency work done on my teeth after I seized in the shower and smashed my face into the tub. Apparently, the dental insurance I'd been paying for but had never used ended its coverage 4 days ago, because my job was no longer working with them. FML
Today, I woke up to the most excruciating pain in my jaw. No dentist that takes my insurance has any openings, and the one doctor I can see to get antibiotics isn’t in. FML
Today, I found out that I have at least stage 3 cancer. I went on my insurance's website to get information for the doctors. I also saw "Other people who have been on your plan." My ex-wife was listed, with a new last name. She got remarried. I'm just going to let the cancer take me at this point. FML
Today, you’re required to have health insurance in my country. I have no income, I spend more on insurance than on food, yet most of the treatments that actually help me are not covered by the insurance. FML
Today, I woke up bleeding from every orifice in my body. I've got a nose bleed from my medication, my gums bled when I brushed my teeth, I'm on my period, and I have hemorrhoids. FML
Today, I arrived at the doctor's to schedule surgery to find out my insurance got canceled again. I only just got it reinstated after the last time they screwed up and canceled it. It took me 6 months to get it fixed. FML
Today, the gums around my wisdom teeth are so badly swollen that I can't talk. I called a dentist to find out if I could see them for a removal. They told me to contact a surgeon, or go to the hospital emergency room. I have no insurance. FML
Today, health insurance is supposed to take care of your health. Or that’s what I thought. Mine is currently pushing me towards suicide, by repeatedly asking for money I don’t have, for an insurance I don’t want, because they don’t pay for anything that actually helps me. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

The American healthcare system is an ongoing train wreck. I don’t know what to say except I’m sorry.

🫂 I never know what to say about this aspect of the US health 'care' system. It's beyond barbaric. Are there no advocacy or support groups who can help you challenge this? There's gotta be at least one Reddit dedicated to helping people in your situation navigate this bollocks. I'm English so I really don't know how the bureaucracy works but life or death decisions *should* be disputable, surely?

Mail your blood soaked tissues to your insurance company

Better; take one photo a day of your bleeding self eating an orange, and mail two weeks of them with the tissues, to show them it's cancer, not scurvy, dammit!

I think OP's point was that the bleeding wasn't considered "bad enough", not the cancer. Still pretty ridiculous.

Have your Dr fight for you. Ins companies are in it for money, and deny anything expensive the first time through.

Maybe try a Go Fund Me Page?

demand to see the medical credentials of the person who determined that. they often back down because they don't HAVE medical credentials.

Demand to have an re-evaluation. Fight for yourself, OP, because your insurance sure as hell won't.
